Revelling in the festive fun at the Donkey Sanctuary
The eagerly anticipated Christmas Craft and Food Fair took place at the Donkey Sanctuary in Liscarroll last Sunday.
Supporters of the sanctuary travelled from far and near to Hannigan’s Farm, on what was a cold but dry day, to browse beautiful stalls of artisan products and foodstuffs, picking up stocking filler gifts and some larger presents as well.
As the fair is held in the unique surrounds of the closed farm at Hannigan’s, it provides an ideal opportunity to meet some of the donkeys and get up close to see the work that goes on at the sanctuary.
Children had the opportunity to meet and groom gentle donkeys and take part in games like ‘ hook a duck’ and ‘wheel of fortune’.
Students from Coláiste Mhuire in Buttevant sang seasonal carols and popular songs which greatly added to the Christmas atmosphere.
Of course, adopting a donkey is a firm favourite Christmas gift, and members of the adoption team were on hand to answer any questions about adopting a donkey.
There are now 11 donkeys in the adoption scheme with new additions Roma and Mary appearing at the fair for the first time to meet supporters and friends.
For just €25 for one year, animal lovers can adopt a donkey for themselves, or as a gift for that someone special.
According to Fundraising Manager for The Donkey Sanctuary Ireland, Breeda Clancy, the Christmas Craft and Food Fair is one of the most eagerly anticipated events in the year.
“We are thrilled to see so many visitors at the sanctuary today supporting our work and I wish all our kind friends and supporters a very Happy Christmas and the very best for 2019. We look forward to seeing you next year,” Breeda said.
