Alps milestone: company marks 30 years in town

-

MILLSTREET-BASED Alps Electric (Ireland) Limited reached an important milestone this week on celebrating its 30th anniversary at its facility in Mounleader.

Amongst the dignitaries at the auspicious get together were President of Alps Alpine Mr Toshihiro Kuriyama; Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Michael Creed TD; Japanese Ambassador Ms Mari Miyoshi, and IDA I CEO Martin Shanahan.

ALPS Electric was founded in Millstreet town in 1988 as a manufacturing base of ALPS Customers in Europe.

Its manufacturing is mainly dedicated to Automotive Customers in Europe, delivering high-quality electronic products to exacting delivery requirements.

The company has gone from strength to strength over the past three decades and has also developed products locally for the medical devices and IOT markets. Currently, ALPS Electric employs over 700 people in Millstreet; the facility has 56,000 square feet of worldclass manufacturing space.

Addressing the guests and staff, President of Alps Alpine Toshihiro Kuriyama thanked the Irish Government, IDA Ireland, the Japanese Ambassador, AIB and the local Millstreet community for their support over the past 30 years.

“Recently, many manufacturing companies in Europe are moving to eastern Europe and Asian countries, and BREXIT issues may indirectly impact positively or negatively to ALPS Ireland operation,” he said. “However, ALPS Ireland is evolving and growing here in Ireland. By continuing to develop its own business and engineering efforts, I believe Alps Ireland will become a stronger company into the future.”

Minister Michael Creed TD congratulated the local team in Alps Ireland and wished all involved every success.

“On behalf of the Irish Government, I would like to thank Alps Electric Ltd for the significant contribution they have made to the local economy by providing consistent employment for three decades”, he said.

IDA CEO Martin Shanahan stated Alps Electric Ltd is a great example of how a Japanese company can successfully operate, develop and scale its operations in a regional location.
