Kickboxing for fun comes to Kanturk

MIKO Martial Arts (Munster Ireland Kickboxing Organisation) established since 1987 has recently started classes in the North Cork area.

Classes are being taught by Coach Paul Coffey, who has ample years of martial arts experience, having studied judo, karate , kickboxing, hapkido and ju jitsu.

Paul holds a third degree in Karate (JKA) and a fith degree in kickboxing ( WAKO). He is a multiple Irish national kickboxing champion and also a WAKO European champion, as well as twice WAKO world silver medallist, twice WPKA world silver medallist, three times WOMMA world champion and Irish open silver medallist.

Paul is also a level 3 coach through Coaching Ireland UL and a level 3 tutor with the Irish Martial Arts Commission (IMAC).

Paul runs a full time kickboxing academy and personal training studio in Cork city and also runs classes in Carrigaline.

He was approached to open up a club in Kanturk and now runs a kids kickboxing / sports development class on Tuesday nights at 6pm in the Colaiste Treasa gym hall for ages five years and upwards, and in the CYMS hall in Newmarket at 7.30pm.

These classes help children develop in sports through martial arts. The classes teach self defence and help with self confidence fitness and flexibility.

Games are used to introduce moves that are not regimental, like certain martial art classes, so this way the child is training and having fun at the same time.

Anti-bullying and healthy eating chats are slso held in the classes.

Teens / adult classes are held at 8.30pm in the CYMS hall in Newmarket. In this class participants strike pads and shields, learning the fundamental moves of kickboxing with a complete body workout. For those wanting to spar that option is also there.
