Fantastic Festival of Carols at St Mary’s

NINE choirs and bands took part in the hugely successful annual Festival of Carols at St. Mary’s Church last Sunday afternoon with Master of Ceremonies Tadhg Curtis.

The 40 strong Scoil Ghobnatan School band opened the proceedings under conductor Louise O’Hanlon. They played Carul na Nollag and Drummer Boy.

Conductor Fiona Ni Chonaill and her Cor Ghaelscoil Thomais Daibhis choir performed Catch A Falling Star and Realt Gael ins an Speir.

St. Mary’s Church Choir entertained under conductor Mary Healy with the classic Silent Night and Joy To The World.

Donning green and red the 50 strong Scoil Ghobnatan Choir sang I Feel The Spirit and Ordinary Miracle under the baton of Siobhan Buckley.

Wearing red hair bands the Convent Primary School, conducted by Maureen Walsh, sang Gloria and This Little Light of Mine.

The 16 strong Church of the Resurrection Choir with Susanna Russell sang Hush Be Still and O Little Town of Bethlehem.

Conductor and school prinicipal Sean Horgan led the St. Patrick’s Boys National School God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman and Carol of The Drum.

Dressed in their traditional green jumpers the 27 strong Rahan National School with conductor Tina Connolly sang We Three Kings and won rupturous applause for the excellent rendering of the Aled Jones classic Walking In The Air.

Cor Mhagh Ealla closed this magnificent event with conductor Patrick Killeen and Carol of The Bells, In The Bleak Mid-winter and O Come All Te Faithful.

Midway during the event Fr. Andrew Carvill performed a reading and Monsignor Anthony O’Brien thanked everyone for making the event such a tremendous success.
