40x20 action continues apace

THE 40x20 adult county championsh­ip action continues over the next few days after which there will be a short break in the schedule with adult games recommenci­ng in the first week of the new year.

On this Thursday evening at Mallow 7.30 start Golden Masters B Singles semi-final is down for decision with Pat Clancy, Conna due to play Danny Lenihan, Boherbue. There are four championsh­ip games down for decision this Friday evening commencing with the meeting of Michael Linehan, Ballydesmo­nd with Vincent O’Brien, Conna in O- 35 B Singles at 8pm.

Also on Friday evening at Liscarroll at 7.30 in Minor Doubles Final Mallow / Liscarroll pair Colin Healy / Cian O’Driscoll play Liscarroll pair Luke Barrett / Michael O’Callaghan.

In Fermoy on Friday at 7.30 Junior Doubles Final is down for decision with Mallow pairing Conor Walsh / Dale Cusack playing Kilworth John Horgan / James Moakley.

Both semi-finals of Junior B Doubles are also down for decision this weekend on Friday at Liscarroll at 7.30pm Glenville pair Noel Manley / Denis Buttimer face Conna’s Ian Heffernan / Pa Roche.

The second Junior B Doubles semi-final goes ahead in Mallow on Saturday at 7.30 with Boherbue Shane Flynn / Roger Casey playing Kilworth’s Tim Dunne / Michael Dunne.

The spotlight will then switch to Liscarroll on Thursday next, December 27 with the club hosting the Tim Healy Memorial Munster Open Boys and Girls Under-13 and Under-15 Singles with the opening games down for decision on that Thursday.

The programme will then continue each day from December 27 to January 1.

The club will be hoping for reasonably favourable weather over the six days to allow all games run off as scheduled.

They again have a large entry with a huge number of games to be played to complete the programme,what stands to them is they have now been running these competitio­ns for over twenty years and have done so very successful­ly year on year.

Following on from the completion of the Liscarroll programme adult 40x20 championsh­ip will again get back on track, with the Mallow Credit Union sponsored weekend of juvenile county finals following on Saturday January 5 and 6 at the Mallow venue. There is a large programme of finals U-8 and U-9 in Doubles only and from 10 to U-17 in Singles and Doubles.

Cork GAA Handball Board Annual Convention was held in Mallow GAA Complex, Carrigoon last Wednesday night with convention focusing on another very successful in 2018, with Cork players winning six All Ireland adult titles, five All Ireland Juvenile titles, both the 40x20 and 60x30 Under 12/13 All-Ireland Inter-county team competitio­ns.

One Wall Nationals title together with a large number of provincial titles both adult and juvenile in both 40x20 and 60x30. 2018 also being a World Championsh­ip year the Worlds programme was in Minneapoli­s, Minnesota and was a very special occasion for former Mallow player Killian Carroll who was crowned World Champion with some masterclas­s displays on his way to lifting the world title.

All outgoing officers were returned unopposed for 2019.
