Gavin James among raft of new acts added to Indiependence 2019 line-up
ONE of the biggest names in Irish music at the moment, singer/songwriter Gavin James, is among the latest names to be added to the line-up for the 2019 Indiependence Music and Arts Festival.
Rising Scottish singer/songwriter Lewis Capaldi, who recently became the fastest unsigned artist to achieve 25 million streams on Spotify, is also set to grace the stage of the festival at Deer Farm, Mitchelstown.
The pair join a growing list of top acts set to play the August bank-holiday weekend extravaganza, which already includes Biffy Clyro, Bastille, Nothing But Thieves, Maxi Jazz (DJ set), All Tvvins, The Undertones and Cork’s own indie legends The Frank and Walters.
In 2013 Dubliner Gavin James independently released the single ‘Say Hello’, which won the Meteor Choice Award for Song of the Year in 2015 signed deals with Sony in Europe and Capitol Records in the US.
His 2015 debut album ‘Bitter Pill’ reached number five in the Irish charts and the follow up LP ‘Only Ticket Home’ peaked at number two following its release last year. He has sold out headline gigs across the globe and is quite a catch for ‘Indie’, underling the organisers commitment to bringing the very best in home-grown talent to Mitchelstown.
While he may not yet be a household name, Lewis Capaldi is on the fast track to stardom and has been nominated for the BRIT Critics Choice Award fro 2019.
Now gearing up for its 10th outing at Deer Park, Indie has always prided itself on bringing the biggest Irish and international names to Mitchelstown in addition to giving a leg-up to upcoming Irish acts.
This is readily apparent in the list of other acts unveiled this week, which includes one of the best selling Irish indie bands of all time, Something Happens and veteran Irish grunge band Kerbdog.
Other acts also announced this week include Norwegian pop sensation Dagny, Fangclub, Thanks Brother, Saarloos, Yonaka, Flynn, Jack Vallier, Fia Moon, Powpig, Tiz MacNamara and Derry indie star Roe.
Festivals favourites such as the silent disco, the Beer Hall Stag, the comedy/ spoken word stage and the Mitchelstown Music Trail will return this year.
Since its first outing Indie has grown to become one of Ireland’s top music festivals, as evidenced by the fact that with more than five-months to go until it kicks off several tiers of tickets have already sold-out.
However, some full-weekend tickets are still available priced at €149 or if you fancy spending the weekend in style VIP Garden tickets, which offer a secluded chilled-out area with private bars and entertainment, are also still available priced at €189.
