- BILL BROWNE

“WE are counting on you to win – let’s make it happen.”

That was the rallying cry from Mallow Tidy Towns as they start the New Year looking build on the successes of 2018, which saw the town’s overall score in the SuperValu Tidy Towns competition jump by 10 marks to 293.

The group will hold a public meeting on Monday, February 11 from 6.05pm in the Parish Centre at Bank Place, during which the group aims to draw up a blueprint for how it will improve upon that mark this year.

Tidy Towns chairperson Niall O’Keeffe said they believe a “community led” approach will be the best way to make that become a reality.

“People’s participation in this plan will help garner the support of others. We are seeking a variety of individuals of all ages and from all professions and interest to become involved. There are numerous ways in which people can give a helping hand,” said Niall.

He said these include offering advise on how to deliver and projects, acting as spokespeople to promote these projects and assisting with fundraising initiatives.

“We are also keen to get people involved who can liaise with sectors of the community where they have influence, lobby local and national suthorities for funding or support, canvass teh assistance of other groups to deliver on community initiatives and undertake projects in their own areas,” said Niall.

“Success breeds success and winning national and regional competitions brings with it a positive image for Mallow. Moreover, it will give those who work to achieve this success a great sense of personal satisfaction,” he added.
