Highlighting challenges of social media for parents
SOCIAL Media Challenges for Parents is a talk by Forensic Psychologist Dr Maureen Griffin which will be held in The Castle Hotel, Macroom, on Wednesday, February 6, starting at 7pm.
The talk will provide an overview of what is currently popular among Irish students, what the potential dangers are and offer practical advice on how to protect children when they are online or using their mobile devices.
Issues such as social networking sites (Instagram for instance); social messaging andchatting apps (such as Snapchat); video-streaming sites ( YouTube); mobile device safety; screen time and sleep; grooming; sexting and cyber-bullying will all be addressed.
It is not about parents blocking content online, it is more about teaching children how to be responsible when online by making parents aware of the dangers and highlighting some practical tips.
