All to play for in darts semi-finals

THE Blackwater Valley Darts Cup and Plate semi-finals first leg got under way last Friday with some very interestin­g results.

In the first cup semi-final the Bridge House were at home to Horgans. The visitors had their sights firmly set on getting to the final and duly obliged in the singles.

Adrian Holmes overcame Eddie O’Rourke 3-2, Mikey Bowles defeated Colm Cahill 3-0, Chris Holmes overcame Alan Flynn 3-2, Daithi Linehan defeated Darren Jones 3-1, Mick Dunlea outgunned Alan Foley 3-2 and Rob Harrington defeated Nicky Sherman 3-1. Bridge House 0 – Horgans 6.

In the doubles Chris Holmes and Rob Harrington defeated Nicky Sherman and Alan Flynn 3-0 to increase the lead. Eddie O’Rourke and Alan Foley overcame Adrian Holmes and Mikey Bowles 3-2

to get one for the home side.

Final result: Bridge House 1 – Horgans 7.

In the second Cup semi-final Dalys travelled to the unbeaten Kilbrin Social Club. The home side wanted to keep that unbeaten run and started accordingl­y.

Mike O’Connor defeated Tommy Kavanagh 3-0, John Lynch overcame Gary Jones 3-2, Alex McCarthy defeated Brendan Matthews 3-0 and Alan Ballantyne 3-1. Johnny Holland defeated Mick Kennedy 3-1 to get Dalys on the score sheet. Pat Healy defeated Tony Hartnett 3-0.

Kilbrin 5 – Dalys 1 after the singles. In the doubles, Gerry Black and Brendan Matthews defeated Alex McCarthy and William Heffernan 3-0 while Alan Mullane and Paddy McMahon overcame Johnny Holland and Gary Jones 3-2. THE commemorat­ion of the 98th anniversar­y of the Mourneabbe­y Ambush will take place on Sunday, February 17 commencing at 2pm.

Fourth, Dolores Meade and Gertie Kelleher. Fifth, Mary C.Higgin and Nora Aherne. Sixth, Bernie Sheehan and Kate Power. Seventh, Liam O’Driscoll and M.O’Shea. Final result: Kilbrin 6 - Daly’s 2. In the first Plate semi-final, Kit Roches travelled to Corkerys knowing this was going to be a close contest but got off to a flyer. Aaron Ryan defeated Will O’Shea 3-0, Raymond Harrington overcame Donal Cullinane 3-2 and Mark lenihan defeated Dave O’Leary 3-1.

Stephen Connolly overcame Kevin Lenihan 3-2, Timmy O’Sullivan defeated Chris O’Toole 3-1, Ger McCarthy overcame Pa Lucey 3-2.

Corkerys 2 – Kit Roches 4.

In the doubles Kevin Lenihan and Mark Lenihan defeated Dave O’Leary and Tim O’Sullivan 3-0, Stephen Connolly and Donal Cullinane defeated Aaron Ryan and Raymond Harrington 3-1. Final result Corkerys 3 – Kit Roches 5. In the second Plate semi-final the Mousetrap were at home to Maureens. Another close contest.

Peter O’Donovan defeated Martin Regan 3-1 to get the visitors on the score sheet, The Trap replied with Alan O’Donoghue defeating James Angland 3-1. Klaus Richter defeated Mick O’Rourke 3-0.

The Trap settled and won the next three games with Martin Doyle overcoming Patrick Angland 3-2, Owen Doyle defeated Andrew Clarke 3-1 and Ryan Harkin defeated Luke O’Connell 3-0.

Mousetrap 4 – Maureens 2 after the singles.

In the doubles Peter O’Donovan and David O’Brien defeated Martin Doyle and Ryan Harkin 3-2. Owen Doyle and Mick O’Rourke defeated Sean Dilworth and Klaus Richter 3-2.

Final result: The Mousetrap 5 – Maureens 3.
