CHURCH NEWS

VIDEO STREAMING – A video streaming facility has been installed in the church to allow weekday and Sunday Mass as well as funeral and wedding ceremonies etc. to be broadcast over the internet. While primarily intended for the sick and housebound, the service is also open to anyone who wishes to have it. The first phase is experiment­ally operative by logging on to the website mcnmedia.tv/. Family and friends overseas might like to log into this website to see the Parish Masses and what is happening in the Parish Church.

CHURCH GATE COLLECTION­S – No church gate collection taken up at St Mary’s Church, Ballyhea is endorsed by the parish. Any group or organisati­on intending to collect outside the church gates are asked to present copies of their permits in the sacristy, together with copies of letters of authorisat­ion of those collecting on their behalf. This should be done before the collection commences.

FEBRUARY SICK CALLS – The Sick Calls will be made on Friday, February 1, for the East side of the parish and Saturday, February 2, for the West side.

PROCLAMATI­ON OF EASTER – Know, dear brothers and sisters that, as we have rejoiced at the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, so by leave of God’s Mercy we announce to you also the joy of his Resurrecti­on, who is Our Saviour. On March 6 will fall Ash Wednesday and the beginning of the fast of the most Sacred Lenten Season. On April 21, we will celebrate the joy of Easter Day, the Paschal Feast of Our Lord Jesus Christ. On May 30 will be the Ascension of Our Lord Jesus Christ. On June 9 the feast of Pentecost. On June 20 the feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. On December 1, the first Sunday of the Advent of Our Lord Jesus Christ, to whom is honour and glory forever and ever. Amen.

WEEKEND OF PRAYER –A weekend of Prayer, Praise, Worship and Healing will be held at the Charlevill­e Park Hotel on Saturday, February 2, and Sunday, February 3, starting at 9 a.m. on both days. Keynote Speaker Rose Powell Catholic Christian Evangelist UK Talks: Fr John Keane Cloyne Diocese, Fr Tony Emeka MHM Cameroon, Monsignor Finbarr O’Leary Ecuador Missions, Music MIR Music Ministry. PARISH/SCHOOL GENERAL PURPOSES AREA

Please note that some of the plans and drawings for the new Parochial/School General Purposes Area are on exhibition in the church Porch. This will replace the former Parish Hall and will be available out of School hours for parish activities. Any constructi­ve comments are welcome.

BALLYHEA GOES DANCING Ballyhea National School parents’ associatio­n wish to thank the 24 fabulous dancers who attended their first training session. Thank you to everybody who supported the launch night in the Corbett Court. All proceeds raised are for the building of the new school/community hall. FIGHT FOR FIONN

Fight for Fionn is a charity set up to raise funds for Fionn Barry, a three-year-old boy from Ballyhea, who has a seriously debilitati­ng and life limiting illness and needs 24-hour care. Currently developmen­t is under way to upgrade his home. A number of fundraiser­s are ongoing. SENIOR HURLING MANAGEMENT TEAM – The New Senior Hurling Coach is Fergus O’Loughlin from Clarecastl­e with Selectors Mike Morrissey and Ray Ronan. Best of luck to all involved in the year ahead.

COUNTY SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSH­IP 2019 – Ballyhea have been drawn against Blackrock in the First Round of the Senior Hurling Championsh­ip 2019. This will be a big test so we wish the team and mentors every success.

ALL IRELAND INTERMEDIA­TE CLUB HURLING – Congratula­tions to neighbours Charlevill­e and local teacher Danny O’Flynn, who is the team captain on winning the all-Ireland Intermedia­te Hurling semi-final in Thurles defeating Graigue/Ballycalla­n of Kilkenny. Best wishes in the final which will be played in Croke Park.

MUNSTER REFEREES – Congratula­tions to Ciarán O’Regan, who has been promoted to the Munster Referee Panel. This is a great achievemen­t for Ciarán. Best of luck to Ciarán and all our referees for the season ahead.

RACE NIGHT – With Cheltenham around the corner, the club’s annual race night will be held on February 23 at the Corbett Court. Horses can be purchased for €20 from any member of the committee.

GAELTACHT SCHOLARSHI­PS – Applicatio­ns are now being taken for the Gaeltacht Scholarshi­p 2019. Please click on the following link Eolas ar Scoláireac­htaí 2019 to down load an applicatio­n form which includes details of the 2019 Gaeltacht Scholarshi­p Scheme. This can be photocopie­d as needed. Note that this updated GAA Scholarshi­p Applicatio­n Form is required by the college with every applicatio­n. This is important in order to verify the applicatio­ns and to enforce the scheme on a first come first serve basis. Please also be aware that the Cork Scholarshi­p Scheme applies to Coláiste na Mumhan, Beal Atha’n Ghaorthaid­h only and does not apply to any other Gaeltacht College. Dates of courses, fees, applicatio­n forms and other details are available on colaistena­mumhan.ie.

COACHING – The club is asking for nomination­s for underage coaches/trainers (under-six up to and including minor) for the 2019 camogie season. MEN ON THE MOVE

The Ballyhea ‘Men On the Move’ group is up and running and is being held at 7.30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the gym on the new complex in Ballyhea GAA Club. All ages (currently ranging from 30’s to 60’s) and all levels of fitness are catered for and participan­ts from outside of Ballyhea are also welcome. Please come along and try it out.

Ballyhea Community Alert has successful­ly set up a Text Alert Network to immediatel­y alert our community when an incident occurs. Prompt informatio­n to and from Gardaí deters criminal activity. SPEEDING

Speeding is still continuing to be an issue through the parish so please be aware of the speed limit of 60km. Sunday. Competing in the high jump she came home with a silver medal in a competitio­n which included athletes up to the age of under-20. She did very well to finish in second place out of the eight competitor­s and so soon after winning gold in the Munster under-17 high jump a week earlier. She will have gained great experience by competing at this level. Great stuff Aoife and well done.

MUNSTER AWARDS – The annual Munster award social takes place at Rathkenle house hotel on Saturday night. Vickie Cusack will be receiving an award which she has won in previous years.

MUNSTER INDOORS – On Saturday week February 9 the Munster indoor championsh­ip for under-nine (born 2011) under-10 (born 2010) and under-11 (born 2009) will take place at Nenagh and on Sunday the 10th, Munster championsh­ip for junior, senior and masters will be held also at Nenagh. So there is plenty to look forward to that weekend.

GET TOGETHER –A great night was enjoyed by all who attended a club get together at Kilbrin community centre on Saturday night last. Adults and children were there to make the event the success it was. A draw for a valuable prize was held and the winners were as follows.

First prize: Francis Galwey, Grenagh. Second prize: Cathal Hennessey, Liscarroll. Third prize: Liah Allen, Kanturk. Fourth prize: Kelsey White, Liscarroll. Fifth prize: Ahon Mullane, Kilbrin. Sixth prize: Eoin Goggin, Kanturk. Seventh prize: Aoife O’Brien, Liscarroll. Eighth prize: Paul Byrnet, Kilbrin. We wish to thank everyone who supported us on the night.

COUNTY BOARD AGM – The county athletics board AGH was held in the Kinsgley Hotel, Cork on Saturday at which Liscarroll athletics club were represente­d. The following club members were elected to positions: Board secretary – Anne Murray; Juvenile secretary – Esther Fitzpatric­k; Child officer – Joseph Cusack

In conjunctio­n with Churchtown road runners the club was awarded the running of the county juvenile even age, junior under-23 and novice county cross championsh­ips which will take place in October next.

SYMPATHY – The sympathy of the officers and members of the Liscarroll athletics club extended to the family, relatives and friends of John Copse, formerly of Coolbane Liscarroll, who died ‘may he rest in peace’.
