Talent surfaces at Duhallow Scór finals
EXCITING cultural talent emerged from the Kanturk Credit Union sponsored Duhallow Scór Sinsear Finals hosted in Cullen Community Centre.
Competing clubs from Boherbue, Cullen, Freemount, Cullen, Kanturk, Kilbrin, Meelin, Millstreet and St John’s participated in a mixed programme of cultural entertainment. Boherbue collected four outright wins with St. Johns to the fore on a pair of victories as Kanturk and Millstreet collected single wins.
Kanturk’s Muireann Vaughan delivered a teriffic rendition of “Fil a Rúin Ó” to win at Solo Singing, Jerry Doody (Millstreet) particiupating in his 44th season rendered a composition “The Looking Glass” to win in recitation.
Boherbue offered plenty of harmonies in their Ballad Group offering “Belfast Love” and “Cill Mhuire” before rousing tunes swayed the Instrumental Music to Boherbue. And “A Tricky Situation” allowed St. Johns get the verdict in the Novelty Act class titled Leiriú.
Duhallow Cultural Officer Liam Buckley applauded the fare on offer and commended the participating clubs on promoting cultural activity.
“We had our biggest ever number of participants for a long number of years, Scór is more relevant than ever before as a facility to proudly display a unique Irish culture through native song, storytelling, dance and music. Fittingly, Duhallow marked the 50th Anniversary of Scór with a big divisional final,” he said.
Sinéad Guiney from Newmarket compered the proceedings as Bean An Tí, thanks were extended to sponors, Kanturk Credit Union for their support.
