The Corkman

Inquest to be held into the death of well liked Duhallow farmer

-

A post mortem has been carried out on a farmer in his 70s who was found dead in the yard of his farm in Meelin during the very recent cold spell.

It is understood that the much liked Patsy McLoughlin went to check on a cow on his farm at Knocktoosh that was near calving when he may have fallen during the early hours of the Friday night/Saturday morning of February 2. The late Mr McLoughlin was found by his son Tom.

As is the protocol when there is a sudden death, Gardai from Newcastlewest attended the farm and a post mortem has now been carried out. While the post mortem has been carried out the cause of death will not be determined until an inquest is held.

At present Gardai are looking into various possibilities that Mr McLoughlin may have slipped and hit his head along with the possibility that he may have suffered a heart attack or an aneurysm.

Mr McLoughlin is survived by his wife, Margaret, and children Tom, Moira, Susan, Pat and Elaine. Mr McLoughlin was regarded as a hugely dedicated farmer and in his youth as an immensely talented hurler.

The late Mr McLoughlin was an uncle to the talented hurler Lorcan McLoughlin.

The much loved father and grandfather was laid to rest after his funeral mass at Springfield cemetery in Broadford on Tuesday.
