Nurses back on picket lines today
NURSES on picket lines have said that their pay and conditions have “gone downhill”, and they will continue to strike until this situation is reversed.
INMO members were due to be on strike today (Thursday) for the second time this week. Cork University Hospital, Cork University Maternity Hospital, South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital, Bantry General Hospital, Mallow General Hospital and Mercy University Hospital have advised the public that, due to today’s planned industrial action by the INMO, all out-patient, in-patient, and day-surgery appointments have been cancelled, and the injury units will remain closed.
In relation to community healthcare services, routine community nursing; health centre and primary care centre nurse clinics; many public day centres; and all day-hospital services are closed. All planned admissions for respite and rehabilitation for the elderly and for people with intellectual disabilities have also been cancelled.
Management at these hospitals request that people only attend for emergency services if absolutely essential. Any updates on patient services will be notified via the media or social media, and will also be posted on the HSE website.
Appointments and procedures that have been cancelled will be rescheduled as soon as possible.
There was no end in sight to the dispute at the time of going to press.
