MacrooM Fc round- up

The month of January saw poor enough weather prevail. As a result, many games were cancelled. Calendar year football will go some way to solving this issue.

The schoolgirls league (CWSSL) will begin their first season of the new format in March while the schoolboys (CSL) will follow suit in the Spring of 2020. Wintertime will now be the new off season with no underage games in November, December and January.

At the moment Youths and Adult leagues are continuing the traditional season but discussions regarding alignment are underway.

Macroom U12s, sponsored by OR tyres, had a fantastic win in the Blackwater Motors local cup away to a good Lakewood Athletic side. The 3-1 victory did not flatter Macroom. Well done to all players and to coaches Gearoid Griffin and Peter Coleman.

Last weekend further cancellations allowed both Macroom U12 sides to play a friendly against each other. An entertaining affair ended honours even at 3-3.

Macroom B travelled to a windy Carrigtwohill to take on the local side and were defeated 2-0 in the County Cup. Best for Macroom were Trevor Horgan, Darren Cullinane and Owen McSwiney.

Macroom B travel to play Lakewood Ath in Ovens in a league fixture on Sunday, February 10 at 2pm while Macroom A entertain Rylane Celtic at Murrayfield on Saturday, 2pm.

In Youths football, Youghal Utd were the visitors in round 2 of the Sean Williams Memorial Cup. The first half saw few chances and it looked like this game would be close to the end. However, Macroom emerged for the second half a different team. Steven O’Donoghue, Pawel Osnowski and a superb hat trick from Daniel Cotter ensured a 5-0 win.
