It’s hot at the ocre in darts semi-finals

THE second leg of the Cup and Plate semi-finals took place on Friday last, February 1 in the Blackwater Valley Darts.

In the first of the Cup semi finals Kilbrin Social Club travelled to Dalys for their fixture with a 6-2 advantage. They were hell bent on getting to the final in their first year in the league and produced the goods in the singles, winning all six.

Alan Mullane defeated Gary Jones 3-2, Pat Healy defeated Gerry Black 3-1, Alan Ballantyne defeated Johnny Holland 3-1, Alex McCarthy defeated Tony Hartnett 3-2, Paddy McMahon defeated Darren Lynch 3-2 and Mick Kennedy defeated Sean McGann 3-0.

In the doubles, Tony Hartnett and John Lynch defeated Pat Healy and William Heffernan 3-0. Up next, Paddy McMahon and Alan Mullane defeated Tommy Kavanagh and Johnny Holland 3-0.

Final result: Dalys 1 Kilbrin Social Club 7 (Dalys 3 – Kilbrin 13 overall).

In the second cup decider, Horgans were at home to the Bridge House. Horgans had a 7-1 advantage from first leg, leaving the Bridge House with a mountain to climb.

The home team struck first with Adrian Holmes defeating Nicky Sherman 3-1. The Bridge fought back with Alan Flynn defeating Edward Phelan 3-2 and Eddie O’Rourke defeating Mikey Bowles 3-1.

Horgans put the result beyond reach, winning the next three singles. Chris Holmes defeated Colm Cahill 3-1, Mike Dunlea defeated Alan Foley 3-1 and Rob Harrington defeated Damian Carey 3-0.

Final result: Horgans 4 – Bridge House 2 (overall, Horgans 11 - 3 Bridge House).

The Plate semi- finals had two close results.

Kit Roches were at home to Corkerys with a 5-3 advantage. The home side started well, winning the first two singles.

Raymond Harrington defeated Dave O’Leary 3-1 and Chris O’Toole defeating Will O’Shea 3-1. Corkerys responded by winning the next two singles. Stephen Connolly defeated Mark Lenahan 3-1 and Donal Cullinane defeated Tim Deady 3-1.

Kits forged ahead, winning the next two singles. Kevin Lenahan defeated Tim O’Sullivan 3-1 and Ger McCarthy defeated Pa Lucey 3-1. Kit Roches leading 4-2 after the singles.

In the doubles, Corkerys once more responded with Dave O’Leary and Tim O’Sullivan defeating Denis O’Sullivan and Daniel Linehan 3-0 and Stephen Connolly and Will O’Shea defeating Chris O’Toole and Mark Lenahan 3-2.

All square on the night: Kit Roches 4 – Corkerys 4 - overall: Kit Roches 9 – Corkerys 7.

The MouseTrap travelled to Maureens with a 5-3 advantage with Maureens being a difficult team to beat at home. The Mousetrap were determined to get a result and won the first two singles. Alan O’Donoghue defeated Andrew Clarke 3-2 and Owen Doyle defeated Pat Angland 3-0.

Maureens dug deep and won the next three singles. Klaus Richter defeated Harry Cosgrove 3-2, Peter O;Donovan defeated Johnny Griffin 3-1 and Danny Butler defeated Michael O’Rourke 3-2. Martin Doyle defeated Sean Dilworth 3-0 to make it all square after the singles.

Maureens needed to win both doubles to bring the match to a play off and duly obliged. Pat Angland and Klaus Richter defeated Johnny Griffin and Harry Cosgrove 3-0 and Peter O’Donovan and Danny Butler defeated Owen and Martin Doyle 3-0.

All square after both legs with eight games a piece.

Up next was the play-off and the first team to win two games qualified for the final. First up was Maureens Klaus Richter and Owen Doyle for the Mousetrap; Doyle won 3-1.

Next was Maureens Peter O’Donovan and Johnny Griffin for the Mousetrap. Johnny outgunned Peter winning 3-0 and sending the Trap into the Final; Mousetrap winning 12 -10 on aggregate.
