Gold Cup Day fundraiser in Mallow

- BILL BROWNE

WITH the world-famous Cheltenham National Hunt Festival looming large on the horizon, attention will turn to the ‘Sport of Kings’ as Irish racing fans prepare their annual invasion of the Gloucestershire venue.

Punters unable to get to this years festival, which will run for four glorious days from March 12 -15, will get the chance to revel in the atmosphere of its biggest day thanks to a fundraising event being hosted by Mallow RFC.

The club has announced it will hold a ‘Cheltenham Gold Cup Day’ on Friday, March 15 in the Munster Room at the Hibernian Hotel.

Race fans attending the event, which will get underway at 12 noon, will be treated to a drinks reception on arrival followed by a sumptuous four course meal before getting down to the serious business of the day.

All races will be projected onto a large screen with commentary and a tipster will be on hand throughout the afternoon offering advice to punters.

Tickets, priced €65, are available from Paul O’Sullivan on 087 678 1632. Proceeds are towards developments at the club over the coming year.
