On last Saturday night at the Munster Athletics Awards Dinner, Vickie Cusack received her fifth successive Munster awards for her performances in athletics during the competition year 2018. Most people are lucky if they can get any award, but Vickie has been an exception, winning four times as a juvenile and this time as a junior athlete. Well done to her,
ANOTHER MEDAL FOR AOIFE O’SULLIVAN – On three consecutive weekends Aoife O’Sullivan has competed in the high jump competitions and won medals. First it was the Munster Juvenile indoors at under-17 when she won gold, secondly in the all-Ireland junior indoors, where she won silver and last Sunday at the AAI senior games were she won bronze. All going well she will compete at Nenagh on next Sunday in the Munster Junior Championships.
CROSS COUNTRY STILL ONGOING FOR SOME – On Friday last week, the Munster Schools cross country was held at the AAI ground, Riverstick at which one of our athletes, Isobel Kellegher competed, representing St Mary’s Secondary School, Mallow. She was first girl from her school home, to lead the team into the bronze medal winning third place. She competes in the all-Ireland Championships on Saturday, March 6.
INTERESTED IN ATHLETICS? – Athletics is a combination of different events which include running sprints, middle and long distance races as well as hurdles, high jump, long jump, triple jump, steeplechase, plus throwing events such as shot put, discus, javelin and hammer, so why not come to one of our training sessions, listed below to see for yourself. You will be able to do three sessions, before you have to join the club. Ccan you master a long jump or throw things. If so, we need you, at any age between 8 and 88.

AVONDHU – At the Cork County Athletics Board AGM it was agreed that clubs of the North West area could reform a divisional area group to organise competitions for athletes within this area. A general meeting of all clubs within the catchment areas has been arranged for Wednesday night, February 20, in Doneraile Community Hall at 8 p.m. In the interest of athletics within the area all clubs should attend.
