Bitterdisappointment for Muireann in the All-Ireland finals
KANTURK open their Cork Senior hurling championship test with a tie against perennial favourites Sarsfields at Mallow on this Good Friday with a 7.45pm start.
Kanturk lost out to Newtownshandrum and Bishopstown in their two championship test last year’s in their first season in the grade.
Kanturk warmed up for their championship opener with a solid 2-19 to 1-13 league win over Na Piarsaigh at Glantane on Thursday last 11th April and will be hoping the confidence of this victory will stand them in good stead on Friday.
Footnote: On Tuesday morning 16th April there was an approach from Sarsfield’s club to agree an earlier start time (7pm) for the game.
At time of going to press it is not known if there is agreement between the clubs and the county board. Any change of time will be advertised on social media.
Scor Disappointment: The trip home from Castlebar on Saturday last was one of disappointment for Kanturk supporters after Muireann Vaughan was unsuccessful in her bid to win the All Ireland Scor Sincear finals in Solo Singing.
In truth, of the four participants in the competition, the smart money was on Muireann to succeed in her second year in a row appearing in the finals and the eventual winner would not be in the top three out of the four contestants.
When the results were announced there was a hushed auditorium at the surprise of the injustice done to the Kanturk representative. Easter Camp: Kanturk Juvenile GAA will hold an Easter Camp on Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday 24th April at Banteer indoor Astro Turf from 9.30am to 12.30pm. The camp is open to U8 and U10 year olds and cost €10 for one day or €15 for two days per per-son. Payments will be taken at the door.
Fixture: Friday 19th April at Mallow; Cork SHC 1st Round, Kanturk v Sarsfields 7.45pm.
