Clyda Rovers 1-8 St. Dominic’s 0-5

CLYDA Rovers last year’s Under 21 B FC finalists are through to the Under 21 BFC semi-final following their win over St. Dominic’s on Friday evening in Doneraile. Exchanges in the opening half were very keenly contested. Clyda had the opening score in the third minute by Colin Kelly after good play by William Cronin and Sean O’Callaghan.

Glanworth replied when a quick free by Jack Coughlan to Jesse Walsh saw Coughlan take the return pass and kick over. In the 12th minute St Dominics hit the front when Jack Coughlan and Jesse Walsh placed Eric O’Donoghue for a well taken point.

They played their best football in this period with Dylan Connolly and Jack Coughlan very impressive in midfield. Jake Buckley pointed as St Dominic’s moved 0-4 to 0-1 clear. Clyda Rovers improved greatly with their halfbacks doing well.

Colin Kelly pointed after a quick free by Darragh Buckley to David Walsh saw Kelly cut through for a very good point. In the 25th minute Eoin Walsh pointed with Colin Kelly with a free soon after levelling at 0-4 each by half-time.

Scores were very scarce in the third quarter. Clyda Rovers hit the front in the 34th minute when a quick free by William Cronin was collected by Colin Kelly who pointed.

St Dominics only score of this half came in the 44th minute when Jake Buckley pointed a free. Dominics keeper Shane Masterson made a massive save from Ben O’Connor.

William Cronin with a free edged the winners ahead. Extra time looked very likely as the game entered the final seven minutes. Clyda had the only goal of the game in the 55th minute when Dylan Flanagan worked well for Colin Kelly who goaled.

Kelly followed with two pointed frees. St Dominic’s tried very hard to get back in contention. They lacked penetration up front with Clyda holding out for a close win and a semi-final meeting with Killavullen.
