DONAL DEADY ... A MASTER ARTIST

- With W Eugene Cosgrove ecosgrove@corkman.ie e | 086 8505684

DONAL DEADY’S work hangs on many walls throughout the world, including locations in Portugal, Spain and Italy.

The Castletownroche artist has been painting since the tender age of 7. Apart from canvas work Donal also paints on slate and stone.

He has sold some of his work over the years but admits he paints for the love of the craft and not for financial gain.

Donal married his wife, Mary, at the age of 39 which he admits, with a smile, was a little late in life. The Deady’s have four dogs which are very much part of the household.

He has been painting for over 47 years and his favourite time of the day to work at the easel is in the still of the night.

Two of the quiet-spoken artist’s favourite works are of Doneraile Church and the statue of Canon Sheehan at its entrance, which he finds extremely beautiful.

Donal loves working on local scenes, including landscapes of Annesgrove, Griffin’s Bar in Castletownroche and his own garden.

Many years ago he painted Ballygown School before it was renovated and sometime later presented his work to the school in memory of the old building.

Normally, Donal takes photographs of scenes he admires and later works from them to produce paintings. For the future he hopes to move to plein air painting and another main ambition of his is to travel with his easel to Doneraile Park and produce a painting of the well known recreation area.

And if you are ever in Rome keep you eyes peeled for a painting on the walls of the Vatican which was lovingly created by Donal.

Donal Deady is a true and gifted gentleman and so easy to interview - and long may he bring joy and happiness to so many with his work in paint.
