Duarigle Gaels take Rebel Og Minor Football Plate title
Duarigle Gaels 3-16 Kilshannig 1-9
DUARIGLE Gaels and Kilshannig contested the Rebel Og North Minor Football Division 1 Plate final at Milford on Sunday. Both sides were short key players. Kilshannig had the opening score by David Kearney. The Millstreet-Cullen side gained control and had their opening points by Eanna O’Mahony and Darragh Cashman. David O’Donovan goaled in the 10th minute and they used the short passing at speed causing a lot of problems to the Kilshannig defence.
THE Duhallow side led 1-6 to 0-2 after 18 minutes David Kearney had a goal for Kilshannig with David Cogan and Eoin Healy (free) adding points 1-6 to 1-4. Luke Murphy had a late goal for Gaels who led at the break 2-6 to 1-4.
On the restart Luke Murphy had his second goal after a four man attack. The winners forced a penalty when Oram Daly was fouled in the area. Kilshannig keeper Gavin Creedon made a massive save from Dylan Downey’s penalty.
Duarigle Gaels continued to dominate. By the 40th minute they were 3-9 to 1-6 clear. David Kearney pointed for Kilshannig. A series of points by Gaels had them 3-13 to 1-7 clear after 52 minutes. Ciaran O’Sullivan had two points for Kilshannig. The Duhallow side finished with a couple of late points and they emerged winners by 3-16 to 1-9 to take the title.
