Kilshannig have impressive win over Buttevant in U16 replay

KILSHANNIG had nine points to spare over Buttevant in the Rebel Og North Under 16 FC Div 1 semi final at Mourneabbe­y. Over the hour Kilshannig were well in control with their half forward line causing many problems to the Buttevant defence accounting for

0-13 between them. The winners took the lead with early points by Aaron O’Sullivan and Kennedy Amechi. Buttevant were back on terms by the 8th minute when Stephen Walsh and Donal Ryan had points. They were also deadlocked at 0-3 each by the 10th minute. The Glantane side moved ahead when Donncha Doherty and Alex Murray worked well for Doherty to take the return pass and kick over. Further pressure saw Rory O’Hanlon and Aaron O’Sullivan combine well for Tom Cunningham who pointed.

Conor Hanlon soloed through and replied for Buttevant. In the 17th minute Donncha Doherty soloed through and linked up with Aaron O’Sullivan who placed Sean O’Riordan for a very good point. Conor Hanlon replied after a four man attack. Kilshannig had their first goal by Shane O’Connell who soloed through from the ‘40’ and opened up a lead 1-6 to 0-5.

Conor Hanlon pointed with Tom Cunningham with a long range pointed free restoring the four point lead. Kilshannig added three late points that gave them an interval lead 1-10 to 0-6.

Three early points on the resumption by Donncha Doherty, Alex O’Leary and Aaron O’Sullivan opened up a big lead 1-13 to 0-6. Conor Hanlon followed with a Buttevant point. Midway through the half Aaron O’Sullivan placed Kennedy Amechi for a goal that put the winners 2-13 to 0-7 clear.

Buttevant rallied with points by Donal Ryan and Kyle Trimm. They had a goal by Hughie Spratt that cut the lead to 7 points 2-13 to 1-9. Stephen Walsh left just six between them after 52 minutes.

Kilshannig finished out the game very strong. Tom Cunningham had some good points with Kyle Trimm pointing for Buttevant in the 60th minute. Kilshannig held out for a win and a final meeting with Kanturk.
