Dromina advance to JCHC semis after Milford win

LOCAL rivals Dromina and Milford played out an entertaini­ng Junior C HC quarter-final refixture at Charlevill­e on Sunday in dry conditions.

Dromina started well and they led all through. Early points by Andrew O’Shaughness­y had them 0-2 ahead after 3 minutes. Sean O’Connell pointed for Milford. Points by Stephen Aherne and Andrew O’Shaughness­y opened up a lead 0-4 to 0-1. Milford came close to a goal when Michael Cremin belted from close range but Ray Crowley saved well. Peter Kirwan pointed a Milford free. James O’Shaughness­y had a long range Dromina point who led 0-6 to 0-2. Further pressure saw Dromina edge 0-7 to 0-3 clear by the 18th minute. Peter Kirwan kept Milford in touch with another free. At half time the winners led 0-10 to 0-6.

On the restart Andrew O’Shaughness­y added another pointed free. Milford lacked scoring power relying mainly on Peter Kirwan for scores. In the 35th minute Andrew O’Shaughness­y placed Stephen Aherne for a goal that edged the winners double scores clear 1-11 to 0-7.

Sean O’Connell and Peter Kirwan (2) had Milford back in the hunt when trailing 1-11 to 0-10 after 47 minutes. By the 55th minute just a goal separated the sides 1-12 to 0-12. Dromina finished very strong adding three quick fire points by Ben O’Connor (free) James and Andrew O’Shaughness­y as they secured a semi final meeting with

Liscarroll/Churchtown Gaels. Best for Dromina were Jamie Banks, William Kelleher, Ben O’Connor, James O’Shaughness­y, Stephen Aherne, John Delee and Andrew O’Shaughness­y. For Milford Niall Brosnan, Michael Whelan, Sean O’Connell, Peter Kirwan and Declan Sexton did well.
