Late goal sees Mitchelsto­wn CBS advance

Mitchelsto­wn CBS 4-13 Coachford CC 2-18

MITCHELSTO­WN CBS with an injury time goal from a free emerged close winners over Coachford College in the Munster U-16.5 (C) HC Corn Dara Ui Dhonabhain at Glen Rovers Grounds on Wednesday.

For long periods Coachford were on top with their half forwards Colm Gillespie, David Casey and Adam Dinan in great form accounting for 1-14 of their 2-18 tally. CBS opened well with Conor Kent placing Dylan Sheehan for two early points. David Casey pointed and followed with a goal after a well taken sideline cut by Colm Gillespie.

CBS had a goal after 8 minutes when Darragh O’Brien worked well for Dylan Sheehan who placed Luke Keating for a goal.

After 15 minutes they were level 1-4 each. The Mid Cork side edged ahead when Michael Guiry worked well for Mark Linehan who pointed. Sean Broderick added a point. In the 10th minute Luke Keating pointed for CBS closing the gap 1-6 to 1-5. Keating levelled from a free and edged his side in front soon after.

Coachford levelled at 1-7 each when James Foley placed Adam Dinan for a great point. Dinan followed with a lead pointed free. David Casey with a point from a free and from play opened up a lead 1-10 to 1-7. Luke Keating with a late point kept CBS in touch at the break 1-10 to 1-8.

On the resumption CBS keeper Conor McGrath saved well from David Casey who had been put through by Mark Linehan. Sean Broderick with a good clearance found Gavin O’Sullivan who pointed. Coachford with a pointed free by David Casey opened up a four point lead 1-12 to 1-8. Luke Keating with a free was followed by a Coachford point by Tomas Twomey 1-13 to 1-9.

CBS added a point before Mark Linehan worked well for Adam Dinan who sent over. Colm Gillespie pointed 1-15 to 1-10. The Muskerry side had a goal by James Foley to go 8 points clear 2-15 to 1-10. Entering the final quarter Dylan Sheehan with a powerful shot was denied by keeper Cathal O’Driscoll with the rebound coming to the well placed Oisin Ryan who goaled.

Good play by Padraigh Harrington led to a point by Shane Looney. 2-15 to 2-11. By the 50th minute Coachford led 2-16 to 2-12. In the 52nd minute Darragh O’Brien worked well for Padraigh Harrington who goaled 2-16 to 3-12. In the closing moments Coachford held a two point lead. CBS forced a close in free.

Dylan Sheehan’s effort found its way to the net and CBS were winners by the narrowest of margins. They will now face Clonakilty Community College in the quarter final.
