‘Spooktacular’ Hallowe’en frightfest at Mallow
Castle CASTLE GROUNDS TO HOST AN AFTERNOON FULL OF FREAKISH FUN AND FRIGHTFUL FROLICS
WITH the ‘witching hour’ now close at hand, ghosts, ghouls and things that go bump in the night are gearing up for their annual Hallowe’en outing.
Mallow is also getting ready to host its own annual ‘frightfest’, with the return of the popular ‘Spooktacular’ to the grounds of Mallow Castle this coming Saturday afternoon.
The event, which will run from 2.30pm to 5.30pm, will be the culmination of a packed programme of events planned for the day across the town.
From tales of ghostly white rats to unexplained lights in the windows of the old castle to a coach being pulled through the grounds by headless horses, there is no shortage of intriguing mysteries surrounding Mallow Castle and its environs.
With its long and storied history stretching back hundreds of years, and its eerily atmospheric surroundings, Mallow Castle is the perfect venue to spend the afternoon and welcome the Halloween season as dusk settles across Mallow.
The fun will commence at noon with a Halloween Treasure Hunt that will get underway on the Main Street (outside St Mary’s Church), with local shops also ‘getting into the spirit’ of the occasion by dressing up their windows.
There will also be live music featuring some local acts at the town plaza from 12.30 pm, with all roads leading to the Castle grounds for two hours of weird and wonderful activities.
Attractions will include Halloween games a DJ, spine-tingling story telling, a fearsome fire show, an animal roadshow, face painters, balloon modelling and a carousel
There will also be food trails where food from local producers can be sampled.
Local schools have being invited to take-part in the event by entering a pumpkin carving competition with all pumpkins entered displayed at the event.
Admission to the ‘Spooktacular’ will be €5 for adults, €3 for children or €10 for a family, which will cover the costs of the entertainment on offer.
Cork County Council, which is organising the event in conjunction with Mallow Chamber, has urged both children and adults to dress up as scary spectres, wrathful witches and wizards and possessed phantoms for the day.
“Since its inception the annual ‘Spooktacular’ has been a wonderful opportunity for the local community to come together and for people to come to Mallow to enjoy the occasion and to see all that the town has to offer to visitors,” said Mallow chamber president Pat Hayes.
“We are looking forward to once again welcoming people to Mallow for a great free day of Halloween fun and frolics.”
