Early bird ‘Indie’ tickets to go on sale on Saturday

- BILL BROWNE

WITH memories of yet another successful Indiependence Music and Arts Festival still fresh in the mind, event organisers have wasted no time in putting preparations in place for ‘Indie 2020’.

With the first acts for next year’s festival set to be announced over the coming weeks, ‘early bird’ tickets for the summer extravaganza – which will see the event celebrate its 11th year at its spiritual home in Mitchelstown’s Deer Park – will go on sale this coming weekend.

The weekend tickets, priced at €129, will go on sale from 10am until noon in a specially erected ‘pop-up’ shop at Walsh’s Yard Bar in Mitchelstown and at www.tickets.ie.

First staged in the Town Square back in 2006, ‘Indie’ relocated to the then 3,000-capacity Deer park site in 2010.

Since then, the festival has expanded to the point where it now comfortably caters for 15,000 festival-goers each August bank-holiday weekend.

Along with this expansion, Indie has also managed to attract some of the global music industry’s biggest names to its stages, with Lewis Capaldi, Biffy Clyro, Primal Scream, Public Enemy, Manic Street Preachers and Editors among the lists of acts to have headlined the event.

In addition, Indie has also championed both established and upcoming Irish talent with the likes of Ham Sandwich, Walking On Cars, The Coronas and Hozier just some of the home grown acts to have graced its stages.

Despite the fact that next year’s acts have yet to be announced, it is anticipated that more big names will be added to this year’s line-up, with organisers promising some ‘show stoppers’ will be announced in the near future.

“In addition to all the usual attractions, we will also have a new ‘Green’ camp-site in an effort to better manage the space and improve the festival experience for all,” said a spokesperson.

“Admission to the Green camp-site can be obtained after buying a standard weekend ticket and then contacting Pamper the Camper or Festi-Huts, contact details for which are on the festival website. This will provide access to the camp-site and to the VIP Bar in the main arena.”
