West Muskerry Boys Strike Gold

-

A GREAT day was had at the County B Cross County Championships last Sunday for the West Muskerry A.C. athletes. The competition was held in Dromtarriffe and medals were awarded to the first six athletes across the line and the first three club teams.

In the Boys U9 Darragh Creed was on fire. From the gun to the finish he battled with the lead group and with 100m to go he sprinted ahead and never looked back. He was crowned U9 County B Champion. The icing on the cake came when his team were also crowned Count B Champions. Darragh’s team were Sean MacSullivan, Liam O`Connor, Joey Carey Martin and Dara Kelleher.

In the Boys U11 again there was great excitement. All nine boys from West Muskerry played their part in securing the gold medals. They have been knocking on the door for a while and their day finally came. There was a shriek of excitement when the result was called.

The County B U11 Champions were Michael McElroy, Conor Hourihan, Darragh Manning, Ronan O`Neill, Will Neville, Liam Neville, Ronan Duggan, Cal O`Driscoll and Michael Kelleher.

In the Girls U9 Isla Yore was in top form as she battled hard and the sprint finish was really exciting with Isla finishing in third place. Isla was delighted with her medal. Her teammate Rachel Neville was unlucky to finish just outside the medals, but had a super race.

In the Girls U15 Rachel Kelleher and Danielle O`Neill again have a very close battle in their race. Both girls worked hard over the first two laps and on the last lap they were sprinting for home with nothing separating them at the finish line.

Rachel won the fourth-place medal and Danielle won the fifth-place medal. The girl’s team also finished in second place. The team was Rachel Kelleher, Danielle O`Neill and Emer O`Sullivan.

All the other athletes ran superbly and are improving all the time. They were out of the medals on this occasion. They are Sarah Neville, Emma Purcell,

Aine Duff, Lisa Carey Martin, Hayleigh O`Shea, Aisling Ring, Milly Bullman, Ciaran O`Sullivan, Rory McElroy, Aisling O`Sullivan and Katie Purcell.

Two of West Muskerry A.C. Senior Group, Valerie Neville and Jerry Cronin both competed in the Dublin City Marathon and both ran superbly. Valerie put a lot of training in for the marathon and was delighted with her finishing time. Jerry has been plagued with injury over the last year so he went out to complete it and was happy he achieved that. Well done to both athletes.
