Councillor appointed to new regional water body
CORK County Council has decided to set up a new Rural Water Committee to deal with issues regarding water and related matters and Cllr Eileen Lynch of Fine Gael has been nominated to represent Macroom Municipal District on the body which will include one member from each electoral area.
Principal District Officer Marie O’Leary told the monthly meeting of the Macroom Municipal District that the committee was being set up, in conjunction with the National Rural Water Monitoring Committee, to ensure local communities play a full and constructive role in the delivery of quality rural water services across all the relevant local authority areas.
The new body will also include representatives of the rural water schemes, farming bodies and other community organisations and is provided for under the Rural Water Programme which was established under the Water Services Act.
The County Cork Rural Water Committee is to meet four times a year, on the first Fridays of March, June, September and December and is tasked with formulating or updating rural water strategic plans, establishing costs, reviewing progress, reporting to the Water Services Authority and dealing with emergencies when they occur.
The appointments from all municipal districts should be confirmed at the next full meeting of Cork County Council in early November and the first meeting will be held thereafter.
