ON Thursday, October 24, Scoil Aonghusa CNS in Mallow, whose motto is ‘Biodh bhur solas ag taitneamh (Let your light shine)’ warmly welcomed its 2019 Junior Infant Class.

The school held a welcome ceremony welcoming the children and celebrating the beliefs of all families in the school. The parents/grandparents/aunts and uncles of the children attended and all were invited to share a welcome message in their first language (French, Lithuanian, Gaeilge, Lingala, Spanish, Afrikaans, etc.) and/or a blessing/prayer/well wishes from their belief perspective.

Parents also read prayers, poems, and Irish Blessings.

The class roll was called and Deputy Principal Kealan Buckley officially welcomed each child to the school with a handshake. The children also sang a Hello song for their families as well as some of the other songs/poems they have been learning during English / Irish/ Maths classwork.

Teacher, Mrs. Amy Daly is delighted to be teaching Junior Infants this year and in her welcome speech she said they celebrate the diversity represented by their school community and believe that difference is very much a good thing, in so far as people can learn from, as well as with each other. She said they hope that the children will spend many happy years here together, that as a parent body will do likewise, and that all can learn and grow together as an educational community.

As a Community National School, Scoil Aonghusa provides a welcome to each child in the community and creates learning opportunities in a setting of diversity and inclusion. The school caters to the physical, academic, social, emotional and spiritual needs of children within the school day in a supportive and caring environment.

Scoil Aonghusa is a multi-denominational school for children of all faiths and beliefs.
