Mallow Utd teams progress in Nat. Cup

MALLOW United U/14 and U/16 boys both progressed to the next stage of the National Cup at the weekend with wins in the double header at St. Gobnaits Park on Sunday morning.

The U/16s were out first where four goals and a clean sheet was enough to see off the challenge of Bandon. In the midday kick-off the U/14s went a goal down to Kinsale but went on to a 5-1 lead at half time before scoring another five in the second half, making for a comfortabl­e victory for the Mallow boys.

Scorers for Mallow were Sammy(2) Rory O’Mahony (2) Daragh Lynch (2) Stephen Emukperuo, Dominic Serafin, Cathal Mullins, Gearoid Daly.

Mallow United U/15A Boys are joint top of Division 4 after a convincing 4 - 2 win over Lakewood Athletic.

Mallow took a 2-0 lead into half time before extending the lead to 4-2 in the second half. Lakewood pulled one back to make it 4-2 going into the final minutes of the game but the Mallow lads defended well to hold out.

Buckley, Nasif Ouroguada, JP Itakunda and Shane Carver.

Mallow United U/16A boys travelled to Corinthian­s on Sunday Morning for a clash with one of their main title rivals in Division One. After a poor first half Mallow found themselves 3-0 down at the break with both of Mallows starting centre backs having gone off injured.

Mallow regrouped at half time however and put in a fantastics­econd half performanc­e. Mallow’s first goal coming from great work by Sean O’Riordan who won a penalty and calmly slotted it home.

Following a period on intense pressure and work rate, Fionn Roche got on the end of a Mallow corner to make the score 3-2 in Corinthian­s favour. Mallow continued to press and were rewarded with an equaliser with Fionn Roche getting on the scoresheet again.

The result was nothing more than the Mallow boys deserved after showing great spirit and belief in each other to fight back and share the points with Corinthian­s.
