‘Staged’ returns with home grown entertainment
LAST November Mike Guerin and Mary Angland brought their first iteration of ‘Staged’ to audiences in Glash School.
The concept was to present a series of short, locally written and directed plays, with minimal sets and featuring talented actors from all over North Cork. Audiences were further entertained during the intervals with some locally grown live music.
The result was a highly entertaining few hours with short, punchy one acts covering a range of different themes and stories.
This successful outing was followed with the second Staged production in February of this year, and audiences were left in no doubt that these shows were a must see.
This November, Staged 3 comes to the CYMS Hall where the new stage will get its maiden voyage. It will run for three nights from Thursday 14th through to Saturday the 16th of November.
Both Mary Angland and
Mike Guerin will both present their own short plays on the night and are delighted to be bringing home-grown drama back to Newmarket.
Mary’s play features the tale of an elderly woman thinking back to a traumatic event in her young life which ended with her incarceration in the County Home.
Mike will present three ten minute plays ranging from an intimate portrayal of grief, to the politics of the staffroom in a secondary school where ‘wellness’ is threatening class time for disgruntled teachers. As you can imagine, some of the themes covered are of an adult nature so are not suitable for children.
The musical entertainment will be provided by K.B. Violet, who many will know from the Thursday night session in Scanlon’s, which he co-founded.
