Boherbue ICA Guild are staging a very special talk in the Pearse Memorial Hall on Monday night next, November 4 commencing at 8pm.

Guest speaker will be a representa­tive from Cancer Connect, the voluntary group who make themselves available to transport people to Cork hospitals for regular treatments.

This meeting is open to non members both male and female. Also, reserve Monday, December 9 for the Christmas floral demonstati­ons -- more details later.

A service of remembranc­e for those who died during the year takes place on Thursday, November 14 at 7.30pm.

LADIES WIN

Araglen Desmond’s Bui lady footballer­s captured the North Cork Minor B title at Kiskeam on Saturday last when they scored a 2-13 to 2-4 win over St. Mary’s in a very entertaini­ng game. Afterwards Team captain Megan Courtney was presented with the trophy and the celebratio­ns began.

More funding wlii be available, in the coming years, through the Community Council, who will make sure, the funding will benefit the local community. Congratula­tions, and well done, is extended to all Junior Certificat­e Students, who received, their examinatio­n results, recently. There were excellent results achieved, by all students, who, no doubt, during their year of study, put in many hours of study, and revision. Congratula­tions also to the teachers, parents, families and mentors, who were also of assistance, to the relevant examinatio­n persons. May you all succeed, in whatever choice you make, in pursuing, perhaps, an apprecenti­ship, or continue on to further education studies.

Buttevant Community Council, having resumed their monthly meetings, are already, to the forefront, of activity, for the good, of the town, and the local community. The Community Council is , currently lobbying Councillor­s, T.D’s, and authoritat­ive organisati­ons, and groups, with a view to perfect the traffic situation, at the Colaiste Mhuire entrance, which is causing “mayhem”,with the “willy-nilly” parking being practised, by motorists parking, at the entrance. This situation is an accident, waiting to happen, and no doubt, will not be rectified, until some serious accident occurs there. Parents, and guardians, should realise the dangerous situation, they are causing, by obstructin­g, passing traffic, and also by parking , in the industrial estate, where businesses are working hard, to make a living. Please be more considerat­e, when, and where, you park, when “dropping off”, your children,,attending the Colaiste.

The Community Council is also liasioning with “Bus Eireann”, and Cork County Council, with the possibilit­y of erecting two bus shelters, on the Main Street, of Buttevant. Litter is still a problem, in the town, with no respect being shown, with the depositing, of litter, in all areas. The Community Council, is contacting, Cork County Council, with the view of having , at least, a twice-weekly “street-sweep”, and general landscape improvemen­t, and also, the possibilit­y of having a “litter warden”, patrolling the town area, and environs, on certain days, of the week. Although, everybody may not agree, in general, that the Community Council, is of benefit, to the town, and there are those who are constantly “talking down” the organisati­on, Buttevant Community Council is always, to the fore-front, where Buttevant, and its’ residents, are concerned. The Community Council, and its’ officers, are always available, to offer help, and advice,and direction, to anyone who may need help, with the relevant authoritie­s, governing bodies, and organisati­on, in obtaining the advice, and help, they need.

SLIMMING WORLD

A new “fitness and slimming”, programme has commenced, in Buttevant, for all who may be interested in perfecting their already almost perfect, body form, and becoming more agile, and fit, for the now more than stressful world, and lifestyle. The classes will be held, in the Muintir na Tire Hall, Buttevant, each Saturday, commencing at -09.00a.m. All details can be had by contacting, Paula on, -0831912347.

TRACTOR FUNDRAISIN­G RUN

A fund-raising “Tractor-Run”, was held on Sunday September -29th.,2019, the proceeds, from which, will be donated to “The Irish Motor Neurone Disease “, which down through the years, some people, in the Buttevant area, were unfortunat­e to have developed. This is a most disabilita­ting disease, for which, at the moment, there is no known cure, with experiment­s constantly being carried out. This event is dedicated to the memory of a local family member, John Gayer, formerly of Boherascru­b, Buttevant, who was struck down, by the disease, recently. Registrati­on took place at,”The Crossroads Bar” on the Chuchtown/ Liscarroll road, and a tremendous turn-out, of all types of tractors, and machinery, was evident. Refreshmen­ts, were available at “The Crossroads”, in conjunctio­n with the “run”. The amount of aponsorshi­p, and support, was tremendous, and attracted numerous on-lookers, along the way. No doubt, the organisers, of the event, were over-whelmed, and appreciati­ve, of the wonderful support, and attendance. Up-to-date informatio­n, regarding donations, and sponsorshi­p, shows the substantia­l sum of, -€19,882.79-, has been raised, with more monies still adding to this amount.

Well done, to all concerned.

The cheque, proceeds from the tractor run, will be presented, to a representa­tive, of the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Associatio­n, on Saturday November 09th., 2019, in the Black Rose Crossroads Bar, Buttevant, at 08.30p.m.

BADMINTON

Buttevant Badminton Club, has re-commenced, their weekly badminton sessions, for the forth-coming “winter season”. The weekly training, and game sessions, are held, in the Buttevant G.A.A., Hall. The sessions, this season, will be held on, Tuesday, and Thursday, evenings, at -08.30., p.m., each night. Whilst the regular members, will be in attendance, the club is also welcoming “new attendees” may be interested, in becoming members. Why not give this active,and exciting, game

RELIGIOUS

As next Friday is November -01st, the feast, of All Saints, will be a Holy Day of Obligation, with a Vigil Mass, on Thursday October -31st., at -06.30p.m., in Buttevant. There will be Mass, celebrated, in Lisgriffin, at -10.00a.m., and in Buttevant at -11.30a.m.

The local parish choir, will continue rehearsals, on the first Monday, of each month,between -07.15p.m., an -08.00p.m. New members are always welcome. Parish Folk Group,weekly lessons have resumed, on Tuesday evenings, at -07.00-p.m.

The annual Station Masses, continue, throughout the Parochial Districts. Lisgriffin Folk Group has also resumed rehearsals, and will continue, weekly, on Friday evenings, in the Church, between the hours of -06.00.p.m.,and -07.00p.m., inclusive.

Mass for the Deceased. The annual Rememberan­ce Mass for the Dead, will take place, in Saint Marys’ Church, Buttevant, on Saturday November 09th., 2019, at -06.30p.m. Enyone who may have suffered, a bereavemen­t, in the past year, is welcome to attend. CEMETERY PRAYERS
