Sharon to take over the helm at Mallow Chamber

‘WORKING TOGETHER WE CAN UNLOCK MALLOW’S ENORMOUS POTENTIAL’

- BILL BROWNE

THROUGH working together local businesses and enterprises of all sizes can play a significant contribution to unlocking the “enormous commercial potential” that exists in Mallow town and its environs.

That’s the view of incoming Mallow Chamber president Sharon Cregg, who will this week officially take over the chain of office from its present incumbent, local businessman and county councillor Pat Hayes.

Sharon is no stranger to the world of commerce, having successfully run her own business, the award-winning Park West Flowers, for more than two-decades and served as Chamber secretary for the past four years.

She said she was honoured and excited at the prospect of taking up the presidency and was looking forward to working closely with members during her term in office to “promote Mallow and all that its has to offer.”

“Chambers of Commerce were originally established as a way for businesspeople to co-operate and help one another to achieve their goals. With this in mind, the main priority for my presidency will be to encourage all local businesses to work together as a single unit to showcase Mallow as a great town to live in and visit,” said Sharon.

“Though my experience both in business and with the Chamber I have learn a very important lesson – alone we can do so little, but together we can do so much.”

Warming to the theme of co-operation within the local commercial sector, Sharon said another thing she had discovered was that some people have certain skills that others do not possess.

“That is why groups working together can achieve great things. Nobody possesses all the skills required to run a great business. That is why I will often say to people I can do what you can’t do and you can do what I can’t do. But together we can do great things.”

Sharon said the experience and knowledge she has gained through running her own business and serving as Chamber secretary would stand her in good stead as she prepares to face the inevitable challenges that her new role will present.

“I am very well acquainted with the challenges business faces in today’s environment. I have learned so much through managing my own business - supporting staff and above all delivering great customer service. These are key to business success and aspects that I will be highlighting during my term in office,” said Sharon.

“I also find the people of Mallow to be extremely friendly, generous and supportive in every way, something that I appreciate deeply and want to build on during my time as Chamber president.”
