West Cork Garda Youth Awards
WINNERS and nominees for the West Cork Garda Youth Awards are not only leaders of the future but they’re also the leaders of today, the attendance at the recent presentation ceremony were told.
A total of 16 Awards were presented at the ceremony in the Celtic Ross Hotel and a number of the winners were from the mid Cork area
Garda Damian White, Community Garda at Bandon Garda Station, highlighted that there was a very high standard of nominations received for the Awards this year.
This reflects the contribution being made by young people across West Cork. Each of the nominees who didn’t win an Award will be recognised with a Certificate of Nomination, which will be presented to them by their local Superintendent.
Sponsor Supervalu have been supporting the awards for 20 years and Adam Walsh of Fields Supervalu in Skibbereen described the contribution of the award winners and nominees as ‘outstanding’.
He noted how encouraging it was to see the award winners value community, and how reassuring it was to observe that they were investing their time to enrich their community.
Chief Superintendent Con Cadogan said it was heartening to see so many young people themselves in activities within their local communities and said their contribution to their communities was uplifting to see.
“I commend the positive impact of those who give freely of their time,” he said.
Organising committee chairman Brian Murphy paid tribute to the winners and nominees and disclosed that the task of the adjudicating committee had been very difficult indeed due to the high standard and quality of the nominations received.
