Munster Junior Cup 2nd Round, Kanturk 5-3 South Coast Athletic

KANTURK cruised into the 3rd round of the Munster Junior Cup with a win against South Coast Athletic on Saturday.

Goals from Martin O’Riordan (2) Denis Finn Damien Finn and an OG were enough to send them through. Heavy conditions affected the tempo of the game but both sides tried to play a good brand of football and in the end Kanturk’s quality all over the pitch was the difference on the day. Best on the day were Lael Tambwe, Denis Finn and Martin O Riordan.

Next up for Kanturk is Knocknaheeney Celtic in the 2nd round of the AOH cup.

After the recent cancellations due to bad weather Kanturk were happy to get back playing, welcoming Passage Afc to Gurteenard.

Kanturk started well applying the pressure early on and were denied increasing the score only by some excellent Goal keeping from the passage Goalie. Soon Kanturk’s perseverance paid off and they scored again after 30 mins. Kanturk lead 2 - 0 at the half time break.

The Second half saw the visitors start stronger and take the game to Kanturk and while a lot of the ball was played in the home team’s half Kanturk took their chances when they came, scoring again on 50 mins from Jaime Eustace and again on 60 mins from Szymon Gezjak. Passage also were denied by Kanturk’s strong defence and the efforts of Kanturk keeper Aidan Higgins.

Kanturk continued to defend well and broke through the Passage de-fence to put Jaime Eustace through to score again for Kanturk on 65 minutes. The Visitors got a well-deserved late goal on 67 mins.

Full time Kanturk AFC 5, Passage AFC 1. Best for Kanturk Sean O’Connor, James O’Neill and Shane O’Leary.

Kanturk U12’s played at home against Innishvilla in cold but dry conditions. Kanturk started off slow with not having played a game in weeks. With a bit of encouragement from the home support they quickly found their feet.

With 10 minutes on the clock Liam Allen smashed the ball into the back of the net.

This gave Kanturk the lift they needed as Colin Healy added two more goals in quick succession.

With the home side now dominating the play and the back line not letting much pass them.

With the Turks looking more comfortable on the ball they went on to add two more goals before half time with Warren O’Mahony and a second from Liam Allen putting the score 5- 0 at the half time whistle.

Second half and the home side come out fighting again and they were rewarded for their hard work as Warren O’Mahony got his second goal of the game. With the Turks now 6 goals up this did not knock Innishvilla’s confidence as they had several chances to score in second half. With some great clearances out of the box and great goalkeeping from Kanturk, they kept the away team at bay.

With the game nearing the end and Kanturk on top form and not finished yet as Warren O’Mahony got his head to the ball to score his third goal to finish of his hat trick to finish the game at 7- 0 to the home team.

With five games now played this puts Kanturk top of the table with max points. Well done to all involved. Best for Kanturk, Colin Healy, Liam Allen and Warren O’Mahony.

A very enjoyable weekend with First game a great experience for the lads. Thanks to all involved and Mallow Utd. Looking forward to the away game.

Kanturk played at home to Carrigaline Utd in a league match in cool dry conditions. Both teams started well and both had chances early on, but it was Kanturk who went ahead when Ryan Carroll played a great ball through the defence which Maolmhuire O’Brien ran onto and placed it in the bottom corner to give Kanturk a deserved lead after 15 mins.

The Turks piled on the pressure after this and got a second just before half-time for a 2- 0 lead.

Second half and Carrigaline took the game to Kanturk early on but great defensive work from the back four and a string of fantastic saves from Donal Murphy kept them out. Equally, Kanturk had chances to finish the game out but failed to score.

Carrigaline did eventually get one back with 15mins to go to make it 2-1, but Kanturk answered back immediately with an-other goal from Maolmhuire O’Brien for a final score of 3-1.

Once again a great result for this team who week on week are getting better and better and are now top of the table. Best for Kanturk, Ryan Carroll, Dylan O’Connor and David Allen.

All games at home this weekend.
