Páirc Uí Rinn AGM to kickstart county Scór season

GAA Clubs and divisional delegates from throughout the county will convene for the AGM of Cork County Scór at Pairc Uí Rinn on Thursday, November 28 commencing at 8pm.

Scór is the cultural wing of the GAA and the upcoming forum will see the Cork body analyse its diverse programme of the past year and look ahead to entering a new season with confidence.

Initiated in North Cork by Fermoy’s Derry Gowen in 1969, Scór’s diverse activity provides a platform for clubs and members nationwide to display their interest in Irish culture and heritage. Reflecting on a landmark 50th Anniversar­y season, the positive status of Scór in Cork emerged on the county yielding an assortment of accolades in a vibrant campaign.

Cork clubs enjoyed terrific success at provincial level in Scór na nÓg to domimate a competitiv­e programme with outright success for Cullen Ballad Group and Kilshannig Music Group before the latter progressed to land All Ireland accolades.

And an ever consistent Kilshannig completed a famous double, their senior Music Group quintet secured Munster and All Ireland accolades with Boherbue quiz team earning runner up place in the All Ireland Final.

Elsewhere, Muireann Vaughan (Kanturk) took delight on a Munster Senior Final win at solo singing and at domestic level , Boherbue’s consistenc­y emerged popular winners of the Paddy Carroll Memorial Cup as Best Scór club in the county.

Outgoing Officers are Chairman, Tony McAulliffe (Lismire); Vice Chairman Pat Malone (Éire Óg); Secretary, Margaret Whelan (St Catherines); Asst. Secretary, Maria O’Donovan (Iveleary); Treasurer Jerome Casey (Boherbue); Asst Treasurer Pádraig Ó Ceallachai­r (Ballincoll­ig). Delegates to Munster Council: Jerry Doody (Millstreet), Margaret Whelan.

The AGM begins with Mass at Mass prior to the main business of reviewing the past year. Dates confirmed for the new season are County Scór na nÓg Finals on Friday, December 13 in the Éire Og GAA Pavillion, Ovens commencing at 7.30pm.

The first round of the Co. Quiz operates on Friday, December 6 at Páirc Uí Rinn with the top three teams progressin­g to the county final. Meanwhile the Kanturk Credit Union Duhallow Scór na nÓg Final goes ahead on Saturday, November 30 in Lismire Community Centre commencing at 7.30pm.

Competitor­s must be under 17 years of age on January 1st, 2020 with the extensive schedule focusing on figure/set dancing, solo singing, recitation, novelty act, instrument­al music and ballad groups with outright winners progressin­g to the county final.
