Patrician Academy, Mallow 1-11 Coachford College 1-8

PATRICIAN Academy, Mallow, held out for a good win over Coachford College in the Munster Senior B FC at Mourneabbe­y. The game was played in very wet and cold conditions. Coachford had the aid of the stiff cross breeze in the first half.

Mallow opened the scoring when Kevin O’Mahony soloed through and placed Eoin Walsh for a point. The Mid Cork side were back on terms in the fourth minute when Luke Casey pointed after good play by Paraic O’Sullivan, Conor Buckley and Jack Olden. Barry O’Shea pointed a free for the winners with Eoin Kelleher making it 0-3 to 0-1 after 9 minutes.

Further pressure by Mallow saw Sean Kelly fouled and Barry O’Shea pointed the free. Coachford battled back well. Good play by Jack O’Sullivan led to a fine point by Luke Casey. Barry O’Shea and Jack Olden exchanged a point. Academy introduced Charlie Carroll who did well.

Cialan O’Sullivan pointed for the Mid Cork side. In the 23rd minute Coachford had their goal when Jack Olden and Cialan O’Sullivan worked well for Luke Casey who goaled. Luke Casey followed with a pointed free. A foul on Eoin Walsh led to a Conor Corbett pointed free. In the closing moments Corbett worked well for Barry O’Shea who pointed after a solo run. On the stroke of half time Ciaran O’Sullivan worked a good movement that led to a goal by Eoin Kelleher that gave the Academy an interval lead 1-7 to 1-5.

On the resumption Coachford had the aid of the strong breeze. They were quickly to get on terms with points by Ardal O’Buachalla and Luke Casey. The Mid Cork side were unable to push on from here.

Academy edged ahead when a foul on Eoin Kelleher led to a pointed free by Conor Corbett. Conor Buckley levelled in the 46th minute at 1-8 each. Academy dominated the last quarter. Their defence were superb and they added three points without reply. The first came after good play by Ciaran O’Sullivan and Michael Fitzpatric­k led to a well taken point by Barry O’Shea.

Coachford keeper Josh Grimes saved well from Ciaran O’Sullivan. Mallow forced a free following a foul on Eoin Walsh that Barry O’Shea converted. In injury time Shane O’Connell worked well for Eoin Kelleher who pointed.

Time ran out and it was Patrician Academy that advanced to a quarter final meeting with Colaiste na Sceilige or Midleton CBS.
