PETER BRODERICK LIVE AT THE TRISKEL ART CENTRE

CRITICALLY acclaimed American musician, composer and producer Peter Broderick will perform at the Triskel Christchuc­h Arts Centre on Friday evening.

While an accomplish­ed artist in his own right, Broderick is also renowned for his interpreta­tions of the work of others, for example his critically acclaimed 2017 piece ‘ Peter Broderick Sings Arthur Russell’, which saw him rework pieces by the legendary and hugely influentia­l New York musician.

In addition to collaborat­ing and touring with the Danish group Efterklang, Broderick has several albums of solo material ranging from the sparse classical compositio­ns of his debut album ‘Float’ to the home made folk music on ‘Home’. Constantly experiment­ing with different musical genres, he has also written music for several films and contempora­ry dance works.

YE VAGABONDS AT THE IONAD CULTHÚRTHA

CRITICALLY acclaimed Irish folk duo Ye Vagabonds will play their first ever concert at the Ionad Culthúrtha in Baile Mhúirne on Saturday evening at 8pm.

The was to have originally taken place earlier this month but had to be reschedule­d.

Brothers Diarmuid and Brian MacGloinn began making music in their native Carlow before relocating to the capital, with their style based on close harmonies and acoustic instrument­ation inspired by various folk traditions quickly earning them a loyal and growing fan base.

The duo have also drawn the attention of music insiders, playing Other Voices and numerous different festivals in addition to touring with Glen Hansard and Villagers. Their second album ‘ The Hare’s Lament’ was released in March of this year.

‘FOLKED UP’ WALLIS BIRD TO PLAY THE EVERYMAN

CRITICALLY acclaimed Irish singer/songwriter Wallis Bird play the Everyman Palace Theatre on Sunday evening, part of her Irish tour marking the release of her sixth album ‘New Moon’.

Described as ‘folked-up and infused with brute soul’, the album differs from Bird’s previous releases in terms of tonal and chord structure with heavy beats and deep bass sounds.

A two-time Meteor Award winner, Bird has drawn prised from critics and music fans alike, playing hundreds of sold-out shows across the world, with her energetic and performanc­es and ability to hold spellbound audiences in the palm of her hand.

ARIEL POSEN LINED UP FOR COUGHLAN’S GIG

INTERNATIO­NALLY acclaimed singer/songwriter and producer Ariel Posen will play an intimate set at Coughlan’s on Douglas Street next Thursday evening at 9pm.

The Canadian born artist spent much of his childhood on the road travelling from show to show with his musician parents, so it was almost inevitable that he would follow in their footsteps.

Ages nine, he took up the guitar kicking off a career that eventually found him traveling the globe for his own gigs, including shows as a member of the award winning, roots/rock band The Bros. Landreth.

Several years later, Posen began working on an album of his own, with his debut LP ‘How Long’ showcasing his talents as an instrument­alist and lyricist. Tickets €17 from www.coughlans.ie.

HUDSON TAYLOR IN CORK FOR CYPRUS AVE GIG

FOLLOWING a string of tour dates in the US, Irish duo Hudson Taylor will return Cork on Friday evening for a gig amid the intimate surroundin­gs of Cork’s Cyprus Avenue.

Brothers Alfie and Harry Hudson-Taylor cut their teeth busking on the streets of the capital prior to releasing their top ten selling debut album ‘Singing for Strangers’ in 2015.

Their acoustic, folky sound and close vocal harmonies, often compared to Simon & Garfunkel and Bob Dylan, has seen them become regular festival favourites.

The siblings also bring a love of contempora­ry pop to their music, giving it a more modern feel, with their clever, mature and sometimes dark lyrics.

THE WATERMELON­S AT THE OLIVER PLUNKETT

CORK-based blues four piece The Watermelon­s will play a free gig at the Oliver Plunkett Bar in Cork City on Friday night at 9.30pm.

With a line up, consisting of drums, bass, guitar and sax, the band boasts some of Corks finest musicians.

Their live sets alternate between pure Chicago blues and blues rock, with blistering covers of tracks made famous by legendary musical figures including Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, The Allman Brothers, Junior Wells, Fleetwood Mac and Jimi Hendrix.

The audience can expect wailing guitars and sax solos driven by a stirring vocals and a formidable rhythm section delivered with brash enthusiasm.

RED HOT SOUNDS WITH CORK’S HOT GUITARS

RENOWNED Cork-based blues band Hot Guitars will play a free gig amid the intimate surroundin­gs of Charlie’s on Cork’s Union Quay at 10.30pm on Saturday night.

The five-piece band regularly perform at venues and festivals across the Munster area, playing covers of tracks by a eclectic mix of artist including The Rolling Stones, The Animals, Dylan, Clapton, Chuck Berry and Wilson Pickett. Fronted by Joe O’Callaghan, who is also an accomplish­ed harmonica, saxophone and keyboard player, the group also includes virtuoso guitarists Tom Stephens and Tony Burke, bassist Peter Brennan who has played with various different Cork band since the early 1970’s and John Quirke on drums.

The band has been a staple of the vibrant Cork music scene for two decades, including playing the Guinness Jazz Festival for 12 straight years.

HARD DRIVING BLUES WITH SOULDRIVEN

RENOWNED for their high-energy live shows, Cork seven-piece Souldriven will play a free late-night gig at the Crane Lane Theatre tonight (Thursday) at 11.30pm.

The band has been kicking down the doors and blowing the ceilings off venues across the country with their brass-infused mixture of soul, funk, jazz and blues.

With a set-list of tracks ranging from the 1950’s to the presents, the band specialise in rip-roaring covers by artists as diverse as Stevie Wonder, AC/DC, Dolly Parton, Perter Gabriel and John Legend.

The sheer musical virtuosity of band members combined with their collective stage presence makes each Souldriven an experience that is guaranteed to set toes tapping and pulses racing.

HOMEBIRD AOIFE SCOTT AT THE WHITE HORSE

FOLLOWING her successful summer tour of the US singer/songwriter Aoife Scott is will bring Irish tour, promoting the first single from her new album ‘HomeBird’ to the White Horse in Ballincoll­ig on Saturday evening.

The daughter of Frances Black and the aunt of Mary Black, Scott’s sublime voice effortless­ly switches between ethereal and vibrant captivatin­g audiences and making her a genuine force to be reckoned with.

The former lead singer with Canadian/Scots/ Irish fusion band The Outside Track, Scott is much in demand within the music industry having performed with some of folks finest acts including Sharon Shannon, Brian Kennedy, Eddi Reader, John Prine and, of course, the black family.

STEPHANIE RAINEY GOING LIVE AT ST LUKE’S

A LIMITED number of tickets are available for the second of Cork singer/songwriter Stephanie Rainey’s back-to-back gigs ‘Live at St Luke’s’ on Saturday week (November 30).

Rainey became an internet sensation when he song ‘Please Don’t Go’ had more than a million hits within 24-hours of being uploaded to social media, promoting offers of record contracts from the US and the UK.

Known for her passionate song-writing and heartfelt vocals, Rainey has tasted further success with songs including ‘100 like Me’, in which she opens up about her battle with self consciousn­ess and the uplifting ‘Nothing Of You Left To Love’.

Such is her popularity the second night had to be put on after the Friday night tickets sold out with in days of going on sale. Tickets from www.uticket.ie priced at €23 (plus booking fee).
