West Muskerry athletes run superbly at Munster ‘B’ Cross Country

IT was another fantastic weekend for West Muskerry AC. This time the club travelled to Two Mile Borris to compete in the Munster B Cross Country Championsh­ips. Medals were awarded to the first 12 individual­s, the first three club teams and the first three county Teams.

In the U9 Girls Isla Yore ran superbly. She sprinted down the finishing straight and was well deserving of the fifth-place medal. Isla also helped Cork win gold medals.

In the Boys U9, Darragh Creed had a fantastic race. He battled hard over the 750m course and was still in battle down the home straight, but was well deserving of his fourth-place medal. Darragh also helped Cork win gold.

In the Boys U11, the West Muskerry boys battled hard throughout the course and did not stop ‘ til they were across the line. They were rewarded for their efforts, winning the bronze medals in the team competitio­n. They were Conor Hourihan, Michael McElroy, Darragh Manning, Ronan O`Neill, Michael Dunne, Noah Cunnane. Well done to Daniel Harte, who also competed for his first time but hurt his ankle and was unable to finish.

In the Girls U13 there was a fantastic battle throughout the race with the West Muskerry Girls in the mix. Clodagh Murray flew down the finish straight to claim the individual eleventh-place medal. Clodagh also helped Cork to gold medals, and captained her club to silver medals.

All the team played their part in securing medals. They were Clodagh Murray, Rebecca O`Neill, Aisling O`Sullivan, Kate Downey, Emily Cronin, Katie Purcell and Olivia Moynihan.

In the Girls U15 Lucia Duarte was well deserving of the seventh-place finish. She also helped Cork secure the gold medals. Her teammates also ran superbly, and they were Danielle O`Neill and Eimear O`Sullivan.

In the Girls U17 Siobhan O`Sullivan was just after coming back from being sick. But she battled hard, sprinted home and was well deserving of her eleventh-place medal. Siobhan also helped Cork win the gold medals.

The Boys U13s and the Girls U11s all ran superbly but were out of the medals this time. They were Conor Nash, Finn Yore, Rory McElroy, Ciaran O`Sullivan, Anna Lucey, Grace

Duarte, Isobelle Lucey, Grace Nash, Cliona O`Brien, Hayleigh O`Shea and Katelyn Cronin. Congratula­tions also to those who ran the Clonakilty 10k and marathon on Saturday: Jenny O`Shea, Brian Harte, Breeda Kelleher, Brandon Duarte, Johnny Manning, Deirdre Curtis and two of the Muskerry Special Olympic athletes Cathy Dullea and Kevin O`Donoghue.

Congratula­tions to Cathal Ryan and Stephen Bradley Paralympic athletes who won awards at the IWAS Grand Prix awards in Kilkenny both members of the West Muskerry Athletic Club.
