AN internationally acclaimed film-maker who hails from Macroom has just unveiled an online cinema where fans of his award winning documentaries can view his works.

Dónal Ó Céilleachair has created the online portal for key works from his 30 years of film-making which have been digitally remastered for the age of online streaming.

Films including the award winning Iomramh an Chamino/The Camino Voyage, which followed the voyage of Breandán Ó Beaglaoich, the late Domhnall Mac an tSíthigh, Liam Holden, Breandán Phaid Ó Muircheartaigh and Glen Hansard, from West Kerry to the ancient pilgrim shrine of Santiago di Compastela in Galicia, Spain, are featured on the portal.

A 2,500 km voyage in which the crew of the Naomh Gobnait naomhóg rowed from Corca Dhuibhne to northern Spain ended in tragedy when Domhnall Mac an tSithigh died after swimming to shore when the naomhóg capsized near the port of Vigo. The crew had already reached Santiago by that stage.

Another film to feature on the portal is Ó Chúil go dtí hOileán I/From Coolea to Iona, a film which follows Cór Chúil Aodha as it undertakes a voyage to the renowned island of Iona with President Michael D. Higgins as the choir celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2014.

“I am thrilled to announce the launch of the Anú Online Cinema,” said Dónal,

“Many of these films are now available online for the first time; a treasure trove of films from each side of the Atlantic.”

The online cinema can be accessed via the website of Anu Pictures, Dónal’s production company, at www,anupictures.com/online-cinema.

Once there it’s a matter of selecting from the 19 works currently available and clicking on the appropiate link which brings you to the Vimeo page for that film. Once there you have the option to buy or rent the film as you wish. You can also view a trailer.

The films themselves feature stunning photography and beautiful soundtracks. The films can also be purchased on online shopping platforms such as Amazon.
