Turks can’t best league leaders

- Knocknaheeny Celtic 2-1 Kanturk

IN the Premier league, Kanturk went down 2-1 to league leaders Knocknaheeny last Saturday in a heavyweight battle.

A game of few chances and a real stop start affair but Knocknaheeney showed all their experience to grind out a win on the day. Goalscorer for Kanturk was Denis Finn and best for Kanturk were Damien Finn, Liam Geaney and Kyrle Holland.

Next up, Kanturk travel away to St John Bosco’s on Saturday in the Munster junior cup.

Kanturk U11s were at home to Carrigtwohill in the morning game.

The rain stayed away and the pitch was in good condition. Kanturk played 2 games of 8v8. All games were closely fought with 2 wins and 2 losses.

All Kanturk players did well despite the lethargic start after a suspected late night by most watching the Toy Show!

Kanturk U12’s played away to Strand United in the local cup in dry conditions. With both teams wanting to do well to advance to the next round it was Kanturk who took the lead within 5mins through Colin Healy’s goal. But Strand not to be beaten on home soil they replied quickly with a goal of their own.

This did not faze the Turks as they took the lead once again through Jack Rahilly. Strand came at the Turks again but some great defending and outstanding goalkeeping from Kaylum O’Donoghue kept the home team at bay for the first half.

Second half, both teams played great attacking football and both teams giving it their all Kanturk were rewarded with a free kick on the edge of the box, which was converted by Daniel Vaughan to put the Turks 3-1 up.

With 10 minutes to go with the Turks looking more confident on the ball they added 2 more goals through Colin Healy and Daniel Vaughan to finish the game 5-1 to Kanturk.

Thanks to all who travelled. Best for Kanturk, Daniel Vaughan, Colin Healy, Warren O’Mahony and Kaylum O’Donoghue.

On Saturday, Kanturk U9’s hosted Mallow Utd in Banteer. In total 5 matches were played, 6 a-side. Great skills in both defence and attack were shown by Kanturk sides.

Thanks a million to Des and his coaches and team for making the journey.

Kanturk learned a lot and hope to return the journey after the Christmas break.
