Stalemate for U12 boys in cliff hanger game that had it all

-

MALLOW continued their push for U/12 Boys Premier Division honours in another entertaining fixture at St. Mary’s last Sunday morning.

This was a game that had it all with fantastic skill on display, teamwork, late drama and goals galore.

Both teams started strongly with little in it, but Mallow went ahead after 10 minutes with a goal from Kerian Isaak after a lovely through ball from Dylan O’Connell. Only 2 minutes later Castleview levelled the game when they were faster to the rebound after a well delivered free kick.

Both teams continued to battle hard and Cian Heylan Davies pulled off some fine saves between the Mallow posts with the Castleview keeper also in top form.

On the 17th minute, Isaak found himself through on goal again but still had some work to do to beat the keeper to put Mallow 2-1 ahead.

Half-time saw Mallow introduce Conor Harrington, Eoin Looney and Diarmuid O’Riordan. The half started as it finished with Castleview continuing to threaten the Mallow goal. The pressure paid off when Castleview equalised 5 minutes into the second half.

Further substitutions saw the introduction of Darrin Dugdale and Barry O’Driscoll. The pressure from both sides began to mount with some excellent football played and with 17 minutes to go a super shot from the Castleview left wing found the back of the net to give the away side a 3-2 lead.

As the game entered the final stages there were opportunities for both sides and then with 7 minutes remaining Dylan O’Connell went through on goal to get a third for Mallow.

Castleview continued to press in search of a winner with Diarmuid O’Riordan blocking an effort that looked destined for the Mallow goal. With only seconds left, Dylan O’Connell closed in on the Castleview goal again; however, the keeper engaged his full body to pull off a superb save.

The final whistle eventually blew after four and a half minutes of tension filled added time in a game that either side could have won but where a 3-3 draw was a result that no one could dispute.

Mallow United U/12A Boys came out on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline in well played local cup fixture at St. Joseph’s Road on Saturday morning. In what was a very high tempo game Mallow found themselves 2-0 down at the break despite dominating the first 20 minutes and having had a goal ruled out for offside.

In the second period Mallow conceded a third before pulling one back from a wonder strike from Ramadan when he gathered the ball out on the right, beat two defenders and rifled the ball into the top corner. Mallow had an opportunity to score a second before a lastditch tackle denied Matthew Scanlon.

This was a very good display and great progress can be seen from this bunch of lads who continued to pressurise the Macroom defence until the final whistle.

In other local cup action, Mallow United U/14A Boys went down 4-1 at home to Tramore Athletic while Mallow United U/16A Boys were defeated on a very cold Sunday morning in Bandon. Mallows scorer was Kelvin Cambridge with excellent performances from Owen McSweeney and Stephen Iwajomo.
