Strong insight from Counihan and Fogarty at Mallow coaching workshop
NATIONAL Hurling Development Manager Martin Fogarty joined Cork football personnel Conor Counihan, Keith Ricken and Maurice Moore at a hugely successful GAA coaching workshop in Mallow.
The event, hosted by Davis
College in conjunction with Pat Spratt, the GAA games development administrator for North Cork, was aimed at everyone interested in GAA coaching, across football, hurling and camogie.
Fogarty, a former All-IrelandKilkenny coach under Brian Cody, delivered a hurling coaching workshop much to the satisfaction of an enthusiastic gathering. Also well received was Counihan, who led Cork to the All-Ireland in 2010 and is now Project Co-ordinator of the 2024 five-year plan for Cork football.
The masterminds behind Cork’s All-Ireland U-20 triumph earlier this season, Keith Ricken, manager and Maurice Moore, coach provided a practical football coaching workshop, focusing on key aspects of the game.
Davis College co-ordinator Pat Bradley was thrilled by the reaction from young and old participants drawn from a wide catchment area.
“Sport forms a very important part of school life in Davis College, the event made a contribution to coaching and player development. The benefits of being involved in sport are enormous, especially during the secondary school years,” he said.
“Those benefits come through at all levels, including physical, mental, and also at a social and personal level.
“It also provides a very good balance with study and learning, here in Davis College, the school enters teams at U-14, U-16, and U-18 levels at both county and Munster level in both hurling and football in addition to a very active ladies football section,” he added.
