Emmets and Kanturk seek progress in U-21 hurling

- BY JOHN TARRANT

DUHALLOW’S exit from the County Premier 1 U-21 HC allows the domestic U-21 hurling proceed with an attractive semi final between Kanturk and Newmarket in Meelin on Saturday.

Not too much form to go, yet both clubs were involved in a hectic run of hurling during the season.

Kanturk look to the services of Barry Kenneally, Dan O’Donoughue, Ryan Walsh, Daniel O’Connell and Brian O’Sullivan for encouragement. For their part, Emmets will be buoyed by Newmarket’s run in the Co. JAHC only to be defeated by eventual champions Russell Rovers.

Their line up includes Paddy Browne, Cian Crowley, Cathal Browne and Ryan O’Keeffe. With just three teams remaining in contention, the ultimate destination of the spoils is up for grabs, Dromtariffe are waiting on the wings on a place in the decider.

Their opponents will benefit from a competitive tussle, that ensures a lively tussle is on the cards between Newmarket and Kanturk where the latter might snatch the spoils.

Cullen and Boherbue go head to head in in the JBFL Final at Kiskeam on Saturday evening. By virtue of a key win over Millstreet, Cullen asserted themselves quickly and gained control from the pursuits of Daire Twomey, Francis Cronin, Cathal Kelleher and Gearóid Twomey with Brian O’Connell in sparkling form in attack.

Boherbue have been pretty consistent, their place in the decider confirmed on a good win over Rockchapel. All through Bertie Buckley, Daniel Moynihan and Dermot Hickey stepped up to take responsibility in defence with Billy O’Gorman and Adrian Murphy faring well at midfield.

Going forward, Denis McCarthy and David O’Connor created an impression that allowed scores on the board. With Boherbue fielding a number of players that operated in the County JAFC, they looked equipped to take the spoils yet Cullen will certainly provide a stern test.
