Kilworth’s Patsy O’Mahony to be inducted into Avondhu GAA Hall of Fame

THE Avondhu Board will hold their annual Social this Friday in the Hibernian Hotel at 8pm. Presentati­ons will be made to the referees who took charge of finals.

The ‘man of the match’ in the 13 different championsh­ip will be presented.

The highlight of the evening will be the presentati­on of the annual ‘Hall of Fame’. This year’s award goes to Patsy O’Mahony (Kilworth). Patsy has a very long associatio­n with the GAA both at club level and with the Avondhu Board and in recent years the Rebel Og North Board.

Patsy O’Mahony is involved in

GAA all his life. He played football and hurling for Kilworth in his early days at Juvenile level winning Divisional hurling titles at U-14 and U-16. He won two Divisional U-21 A hurling medals with Kilworth in 1965 and 1967 when he was captain. He received the Capt Mackey Cup. Kilworth did not win that title U-21 A HC for 49 years until 2016. He was a member of the Kilworth Junior A hurling side that won county JAHC title in 1967. He played county IHC in 1968.

He was Minor Club Secretary and Treasurer in 1984 and 1985. He has represente­d Kilworth club at Board level since 1980. He was first elected on the GPC in 1980 and became Registrar in 1981. Five years later when Willie Collins retired he became Board Treasurer. He served the Board diligantly as Treasurer for 25 years up to 2010. He had a major involvemen­t in Scor, providing venues for finals, and semi finals, organising Judges

and collecting at the door for various finals.

He then became Treasurer of Rebel Og North Region in 2010 and his currently. He has presented many cups and trophies to players over the years and it is now time for him to receive a much deserved trophy.
