Irish politics now needs to reflect needs of the people
Conor Hannon (43) is married and lives in Ballyclough, Mallow.
Conor attended Limerick IT and works as a Quantity Surveyor.
Conor decided to run for the general election as he feels disappointed and disillusioned with the direction politics has been going in recent years. As someone who believes in the inalienable right to life, Conor believes that his values, which he shares with many others, are not represented by any party in Dáil Éireann, and he is pleased to see that Aontú are filling the gap for voters who do not feel they have a voice in Irish politics.
Conor is one of eight and comes from a farming background. He was raised on his father’s dairy farm in Ballyclough, and recognises the unique role and contribution that farmers have in a rural community.
He knows that farmers are the backbone of a rural community, and indeed the country, and they need the support of politicians if they are to continue to make a living from the land.
As the family is the most basic unit of our society, Conor wants to see more supports for families through adequate parental leave, particularly increased and appropriate supports for families with additional needs and who have a family member with a disability or long- term illness.
In his work as a Quantity Surveyor, Conor has observed that the Local Authorities are in danger of losing the skills and expertise in construction that they had acquired when they were building social housing units, and he says we need to get the councils back building again.
As a daily commuter on the Mallow / Cork Road, Conor would like to see the LimerickCork motorway coming to fruition and is frustrated by the ongoing delays with various infrastructural projects around County Cork being put on the long finger.
