HIGH flying former students from second-level schools across North and Mid- Cork have been honoured for their hard work and outstanding results in their Leaving Cert and Leaving Cert Applied (LCA) exams.

They were among 140 students from across the county who received medals and certificates of commendation by Cork Education and Training Board (CETB) their annual awards ceremony at the Radisson Blu Hotel and Spa, Little Island.

Each of the schools also identified one stand-out student who not only reached their academic potential, but also gave outstanding commitment to their school community, with prestigious Student of the Year awards.

Seven of the students, including Áine Cáit Ní Cheallacháin and Grace Ní Shuilleabháin from Gaelcholáiste Choilm, Séan Thompson from Coláiste Choilm and Darragh O’Brien from Coláiste an Chraoibhin were awarded the prestigious Board Medal for achieving the maximum possible 625-points.

The awards ceremony was attended by CETB representatives, proud parents and staff from the represented schools, with music by the trio of Louise Clarke, Adele Murphy and Eolann O’Toole from the Cork School of Music providing the ideal accompaniment to proceedings.

CETB chief executive Denis Leamy praised all of the award recipients for the diligence and dedication they showed over the years leading up to sitting their final exams.

“I would like to congratulate all of the students involved on receiving this recognition of the dedication which they all put toward their Leaving Certificate. I hope that these awards display that great achievements are possible through hard work,” said Mr Leamy.

“On behalf of Cork Education and Training Board, I wish these students the best in their future endeavours. I have no doubt that the work ethic they displayed in the leaving certificate will benefit them on their future endeavours,” he added.

Mr Leamy also used the occasion to acknowledge the support of parents, guardians and staff in assisting the students to achieve their ambitions.
