Garda awards set to celebrate North Cork’s outstanding young
Achievers
YOUNG people from across the Cork North Garda division are to be honoured for their contributions to their respective communities through a special awards scheme.
The winners of the annual Supermac’s sponsored Cork North Garda Youth Achievement Awards will be unveiled at a gala ceremony on Thursday, February 13, at The Charleville Park Hotel.
Garda Superintendent Michael Corbett said the awards celebrate the enormous amount of great work done by young people on behalf of their communities that might otherwise go unheralded.
“We believe that it is very important to recognise and reward the young people, who by their actions have marked themselves out as our future leaders,” said Inspector Corbett.
“We are delighted to be in a position to honour the efforts of these young people. We are also grateful to Supermac’s for their support, without which it would not be possible to hold these awards,” he added.
Members of the public, groups and committees were invited to nominate young people between12 to 21 years-of-age who reside within the division, which is comprised of the Mallow, Fermoy and Midleton Garda districts.
A total of 11 awards will be handed out on the night including individual and special achievement awards, a group awards and a community safety award, the latter honouring those who have made a positive contribution to their communities by helping to make them better places to live in.
The overall winner in each category will then go forward to represent the Cork North division at the National Garda
Youth Awards.
Inspector Corbett said the value of winning one of these awards “cannot be understated.” “These awards recognise the very positive contribution young people who through their activities make their communities better and safer places in which to live or who have shown great determination in their own lives,” he said.
