Prep almost complete for expanded arts fest
PREPARATIONS are almost complete for the upcoming Kanturk Arts Festival.
The Kanturk International Flash Fiction Competition attracted entries from all over the world and is being judged by writer/journalist Breda Joy, no stranger to North Cork having worked as a reporter on The Corkman newspaper some years ago.
Her debut novel, ‘Eat the Moon’, a fascinating story, was published in 2018 and her new novel will be launched this summer. Breda will also perform the official opening at ‘ The Invited Artists Exhibition’ at O’Callaghan’s Toyota Showrooms in Earl Street on Friday, March 13th.
There will be a number of workshops for both children and adults including ‘Crochet with Joan’ (adults), ‘Introduction to Crime Writing’ with Cork based novelist Kevin Doyle (adults), ‘Drypoint printmaking’ workshops (for both teenagers and adults) by artist Bríd Moynahan and a ‘Drawing’ workshop with Elayne O’Connor (adults), and for the smaller people painting with Messy Hands and Deborah O’Keeffe.
There will be a Night of Drama, the popular Poetry Slam is back, there will be music by the new Kanturk Ukelele Group, ‘Kanturkelele’, A Night of Songs and Stories, the Kanturk Credit Union’s Schools’ Art competition and much more.
The full programme will be launched on Wednesday, February 19th by chairperson of Kanturk Mallow municipal district of Cork Co. Council, Bernard Moynihan MCC at Kanturk Rugby Club.
