Cork AUL Premier League Grattan 2, Kanturk 3

KANTURK got back to winning ways with an excellent win away to Grattan on Sunday morning last on a very heavy pitch.

Kanturk went 1 up from a free from Kyrle Holland after 10 minutes. Grattan immediately responded with a scramble in the box finished well from a long throw.

After this Kanturk dominated for most of the game, scoring 2 excellent goals from Lael Tambwe and from the in-form Nathan Healy.

Grattan scored a scrappy free with 15 left and threw the kitchen sink at Kanturk but they stood up to it well and held out for a deserved 3 points. Best on the day were Nathan Healy, John Dennehy and Denis Finn.

Next up is a home game to Bohemians next Saturday. All support welcome.

Kanturk 4 Youghal Utd 1

After a long break, Kanturk U14s got back playing in their first competitive league game following recent cancellations due to weather and welcomed Youghal Utd to Gurteenard.

Conditions were perfect and what followed was a very fast paced game in which Youghal started the stronger and picked up an early goal after only 7mins. Kanturk’s long break showed but eventually the home side shook off the cobwebs and Stephen Sheehan equalised after 18 mins. The first half finished 1 -1.

Kanturk started to control the second half and were rewarded with 2 more goals from Stephen at 38 mins and also at 43 mins. The visitors fought back but Kanturk defended well in what was a very physical second half of football.

A Combined effort from Eoin O’Riordan and Shane O’Leary tapped in the 4th goal after 55 mins to seal the win. Great effort and Well done to all the lads.

Best for Kanturk, Stephen Sheehan, Alan Gazkowski and David Lehane.

Kanturk 5 Buttevant 2

Kanturk AFC U16’s had their first league game of 2020 at home against Buttevant.

Kanturk looked to be well up for the game, taking an early lead with an excellent free kick from Simon Murphy and Daragh Bourke putting Kanturk 2 up soon after.

Buttevant had their chances in the first half but were kept out by some excellent defensive work and goalkeeping. The start of the second half saw Kanturk extend their lead with a further 2 goals from Daragh Bourke completing his hat trick and soon after Oran Moynihan scoring with an excellent cross from Ryan Carroll.

Buttevant pulled two goals back and were always threatening on the break but it was Kanturk that looked the stronger of the two sides. An excellent all round performance from the entire squad on the day.

Man of the Match, Daragh Bourke. Best for Kanturk Oran Moynihan, Simon Murphy, Donal Murphy.

Carrigaline 4 Kanturk 1

Kanturk U12s played away to Carraigaline United in great conditions on Sunday.

Carraigaline wasted no time from the get-go as they went up 1 goal within the first four minutes. Kanturk settled down and had a few chances of their own but unfortunately couldn’t find the back of the net.

Carraigaline hit the Turks on the counter to put them two goals up. The Turks hit one back when Colin Healy and Joe Murphy linked up to find the back of the net to put the Turks back into it.

Second Half, Carraigaline took full advantage of the home ground as they found the back of the net twice more. Kanturk had a few chances of their own but luck was just not on their side as they could not find the finishing touch.

Well done to all the lads for travelling and keep their heads up and look forward to the next game. Also thanks to the parents for their continued support.

Best for Kanturk Joe Murphy, Colin Healy, Warren O’Mahony and Jack Rahilly.
